    > “It was identified that this was a homophobic hate crime from the outset. Officers obtained accounts from the victims and others, and reviewed CCTV. Two young people were charged that day, and remanded into custody. On the morning of August 18, they both pleaded guilty to robbery and have been bailed, with conditions, to appear for sentencing on September 21 at Highbury Magistrates Court.”

Time and time again, I’m being told the culture war bullshit being peddled doesn’t translate to more hatred towards LGBT. I honestly hope we can find our way through the next few trying years without more of this senseless brutality.

  2. Surely they’ve not only been charged with robbery?
Perhaps they were trying to say that’s the only one they’ve admitted?

  3. >“They stole everything we had.

    >“I had three people stamping in my head and one assaulting my friend with one white woman standing as a look out,” he wrote.

    What absolute cunts

Hope they also nick the third attacker and get the lookout on joint enterprise.

  4. ~~Police~~ CPS prosecutors ~~charge~~ pursue in court the part they know they can win. I believe it was homophobic hate crime but they have to go by standards of evidence and my belief is that hate crime is founded in hearsay. A video of the attack and witness statements can easily establish assault. It’s very likely to succeed at trial. For an overloaded prosecution service this is achievement unlocked.

It’s shit. I totally believe there are also reasons to suspect the met minimise homophobic attacks, I am only observing the system overall is designed now to find a low bar successful case.

  5. Kicking people when they are on the floor is, and should be considered, attempted murder. This is especially the case when kicking people in the head.

It needs to be more recognised and the police, the courts and society at large need to treat this seriously.

You kick someone in the head when they’re down, you are trying to kill them. Not GBH, not ABH, not assault and battery, not robbery – attempted murder. I blame film and TV here for not showing the seriousness of it, they’ve promulgated the idea that it’s just a tactic to be used in a fight – it’s not. It’s not some minor escalation, it’s really fucking serious and extremely incautious.

  6. Well, the Archbishop of Canterbury will be giving himself a satisfactory pat on the back seeing that his recent message has reached its violent conclusion.

  7. And they say homophobia isn’t a problem in the UK anymore 🙄

Bullshit, here we are with another incident that makes happy I can easily pass as a straight woman.
