As an Irish person , I’m embarrassed by this. We should know better.
Ireland does recognise Palestine but it’s more nuanced than that.
Well, technically speaking both houses do and are now using that to try an leverage an EU wide foreign policy shift to recognise it.
I think they should have the courage and just formally recognise it nationally regardless of fallout
Definitely.
It’s population do.
“What’s the craic Palestine, haven’t seen ya in ages!”
Yep. Ireland must recognize both.
Maybe not officially but we definitely do recognise Palestine.
We recognize Palestine, even with a mission of Palestine at the end of Leeson Street. And the Israeli embassy gets so much stick that they don’t even fly their flag at their embassy anymore. So to have a big Israeli flag on the republic is not representative of whats actually happening here.
Yes we absolutely should 🇵🇸
Yes, given Irelands and Palestines history it is awful that they are not recognised.
That would be an ecumenical matter.
Absolutely. I think we have become far too much of a shrinking violet internationally and we’re too afraid to call a spade a spade – the genocide of Palestinian people – for fear of standing out or upsetting the neighbors.
Fuck that.
Ireland has a rich history of calling out Colonial bullshit, from South Africa to the U.S. (to our own).
Fuck this bowing down to bullshit, embarrassingly pretending we don’t see the massacre before our eyes for the sake of not wanting to embarrass our ‘colonial buddies’.

All countries should recognize both
I thought we already did.
HAMAS has been active since 87 , doesmt matter if they only been elected since 2007 , hamas had power long before 2007 now its just offical. I’m not continuing the conversation further , it’s just what about this that Israel done , Israel has acted terribly towards Palestine and Hamas has done the same I acknowledge that. HAMAs methods of resistance are more in line with those of a terrorist organisation. There is no good guy bad guy in this, if you can stand behind HAMAs and their actions in the pursuit of freedom you need your head checked. If you support Israelis method of policing and interaction with the Palestinian population you also need your head checked.
I feel the only people who claim to recognise Israel are those in power right? Given its just a safer stance to keep good relations.
And while it’s not exactly a daily topic, every time it’s ever brought up the stances range from “It’s Palestines land” to “It’s a difficult one for both sides”. Never once has there been a pro Israel opinion.
Shouldn’t even be a question.
Because our government are useless, they only thing of themselves.
Yes
I’m just throwing this out here, do you think it might have something to do with us holding the peacekeeping mission in the area? We have troops in Lebanon and the Golan heights.
If we antagonise Israel (and let’s face it, that’s exactly how they’d take it), then we’d lose our standing there. Our troops wouldn’t be safe in Lebanon and they’d probably get kicked out of Golan.
YES, I am a bit surprised that we don’t!!!!
You mean we don’t 😧
The fact we in Ireland support a settler colonial entity aiming to use religious and demographic genocide to eliminate the native peoples has an irony of its own.
Wait till Sinn Fein get into power they will have the balls to represent the people’s wishes and recognize palestine.
Free Palestine 🇵🇸 I think the fighting should stop and they just try live together, stop the divide and conquer!
