‘Nimby’ Rishi Sunak under fire for rejecting solar panels on farmland if he reaches No 10

  1. There is enough empty land in this country that we can have both farmland and land for solar panels. None of this makes sense but it’s typical tory nonsense.

  2. Why even say it this way though? Just tell people something like “Obviously we’ll consider all options and weigh them appropriately, but for now my approach is to prioritise offshore wind and tidal”

It just screams incompetence to alienate a bunch of potential voters by bluntly saying you’ll crack down on something that ostensibly doesn’t seem to be an actual problem.

  3. I think it’s about time journalists investigated what shares politicians own. I bet the majority who oppose these measures have investments in oil and gas.

  4. Good news – he won’t be our next Prime Minister

Bad news – his opponent is [just as fucking crazy](https://www.solarpowerportal.co.uk/news/energy_sector_hits_back_as_truss_dubs_solar_farms_paraphernalia) on this subject.

If someone wanted to do as poor a job as possible as Prime Minister (kind of like when I used to play as Manchester United in Football Manager and try to get them relegated), I can’t think of a better plan than to sabotage our renewable plans so that consumers are forced to pay more for energy and the country is more easily blackmailed by the likes of Putin.

  5. Biggest solar farm in the UK in shotwick is just up the road from me. No one knows it’s there, because you can’t see it very well from the road level.

Not exactly an issue and I’ve never seen people complain about it.

  6. In his local area the locals are already up in arms about a local solar and wind farm that’s being proposed. It’s appealing to his voter base to be honest

  7. He’s not going to win, so his policies are a bit irrelevant.

I don’t think he’ll even still be in Parliament this time next year.

  8. Yeah but he was on the telly saying what madonals food he orders with his family, real stand up guy that Rishi Sunak.

If there’s anyone we absolutely do not need as our prime minister it’s this billionaire politician cosplaying as a regular, relatable guy to appear to be as down to earth as possible.

How about you get down of your throne of obscene wealth and touch the grass that you want to desperately save from the *ghastly* threat of renewable energy Rishi.

  9. Let’s put them everywhere! Farmland can be a decent place, but why not also raised over car parks? Why not on bus stops and other shelters? Why not any surface that’s currently wasted space (except on the road itself, that was a silly idea from a few years back…)

  10. Tory try not to be cartoonishly evil and literally pick the worse option on every single issue challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

  11. It’s pretty ridiculous that he’s framing this as standing up for farmers.

Nobody is going to force farmers to put solar panels in their fields. If it makes business sense for them to sell to a solar farm they will, if it doesn’t they won’t.

  12. Given that he must have half a brain ( I mean by law of averages with Truss being denser than a black hole, he must ) the only reason for this, especially considering legal commitments to net zero, is that he is paid off by fossil fuel interests

  13. Yeah I mean why would we want electricity, that’s produced for free, for ever, for as long as there is sunlight? What kind of idiotic lefty nonsense is this? How will my coal shares go up?

  14. Desperate lowest common denominator policies put forth by a man who knows he doesn’t stand a chance against Liz “Thatcher” Truss. The state of British politics. Laughable.

  15. Get rid of the friggin methane monster cows …
Will give the Uk back land for crops and water for the population…
Every new build house should be 100% renewable energy …

  16. Producing food in the UK is not economic, British produce will never be competitive with stuff from Eastern Europe with workers earning 2-3£/h there. Using land for a solar panel is a much better deal for the land owner

  17. Putting solar panels on farmland is a stupid idea. The UK only has the capacity to grow 50% of it’s own food, we cannot afford to waste any farmland

  18. We need to get far more creative with placement to be honest, we could have them on crossings sides of motorways etc. farm land is important of course, but I drove past a solar farm the other week and it had a bunch of sheep in it doing their usual grass munching thing and chilling under the shade of the panels.
