Excessive use of my data plan

  1. I got this message today and was confused. I usually use 60-80gb a month, just on my phone. I bought an unlimited plan, and in their FUP they don’t state any amounts. Also there are 2 spelling mistakes in the last sentence which to me might be an indication that this is a troll.

What do I do now, I don’t use the plan for anything unusual.

  2. It looks pretty shady. Unlimited data is unlimited data. And 40GB, well, that’s a joke.

I used 256GB this month with my Swisscom Mobile. 101GB alone for scrolling Reddit.

If they don’t like it. Well, there are other ones who are less picky…

  3. I lifed from hotspot in my study time all year long over 5 years, i played all night games online and watched movies in ultra hd over my mobile phone hotspot lol. I could imagine i used with hotspot to my devices over my phone over 100gm a month easily (salt). Never heard something from them

  4. From what I heard from people that work in this industry is, that this message gets sent out automatically and until you really stress your usage – several hundred GB – they won’t do anything

For myself, I use around 80-300GB a month and never had a problem of Swisscom capping my data limit.

  5. Fake to me. I used to work from home via my mobiles hotspot every day, then used that hotspot for youtube, netflix and other stuff after work. summed up easily to +100gb each and every month, often more than 200gb (yes, i had no seperate internet at home, as my home needs no internet – i do 😜). Was expecting such a message all the time but never got one.

Later i asked a friend who worked with swisscom how long i can go on like this until i would receive a message about fair use policy, and he confirmed to me it does not exist, and i should not worry about it.

Maybe their policies changed, i worked this way for around one year until end of october 2021, so thats to be taken with a grain of salt.

  6. Swisscom doesn’t call you “user” they call you by your name to avoid phishing like PayPal. That’s a fake sms so report it.

  7. I mean just send this pic with a politely aggressive mail to Swisscom customer support and see what they say.

  8. “Sehr geehrte:r Nutzer:in” is a red flag.
As a Swisscom customer myself, they either adressed me with “Liebe Kundin, Lieber Kunde” or directly with my name.

Additionally they NEVER ended with “Swisscom (Schweiz) AG”.

  9. Seems a bis suspicious to me. Any text i get from Swisscom starts with my first name. Also I’ve used way more than that before (we had issues with UPC) i used USB tethering for internet and as a gamer downloading games and playing, ive far exceeded 40gb.
It was never an issue. If i were you id contact swisscom and ask for specifics.

  10. I’ve been a Swisscom user for 17 years and use up to 70GB a month in data. Never did I get a notice like that. My current plan is inOne S still. They even upgraded my speed from 50 to 100Mbps for free back in March 2021.

  11. this is legit and automated.
i was in contact with swisscom various times since i got the first of theses messages.
so the AGB state that the user is not supposed to use the phone as an excessive hotspot for other devices.
they are trying to avoid you just buying a phone abo and then using it for an example as ur home network.

its ludacris. they sell you an “unlimited” flat but after 40GB u will get the message and flagged in their system.

after multiple flags they might in certain cases will slow down connection speed or cancel the agreement if they want to.

its been a year since i got the first one of these am still overusing get the message every month but no issues with then until now.

the issue is that this applies not only to swisscom its currently all providers from what im aware of. and has probably been put in place a long time ago because 40GB is simply not enough even if u only use it for only phone activites like a bunch of high quality videos.

FYI monitoring of big agreements for example companies with multiple phones etc get flagged more often and investigated more closely than private users i confirmed that with swisscom.

  12. Had a similiar Problem with UPC. Got a call from them every single day because i used more than what they consider “fair use”.

On an unlimited contract id consider using unlimited data as fair use.

They said they would either hike up my price or i can quit the contract early, so i changed provider.

  13. What number did it come from? The telecommunication companies mostly use 3 digit numbers or you just see “Swisscom” as a name but no number. If it’s anything else, I’m 99% sure that it’a fake.

  14. I use Wingo, pay 25 chf/month, and use my phone as a hotspot for my computer. If I use over 200 GB I don’t get such messages.

  15. I know they have this fair-use policy on (some?) of their business subscriptions (I got a warning from our guy who managed the subscriptions). If you really want to know, contact them.
