So happy at the prospect of the next ten years discussing in detail a “green transition” that will still leave us fucked, but with less time for actual solutions
Had two 405’s in the 90’s and both had engine problems.
Probably best for them to abandon engines.
Don’t really have much choice TBH. Given that governments are trying to phase out and eventually ban diesel and petrol cars.
This is great and all, but I feel like a company the size of Puegeot should have had these plans ages ago and shouldn’t be aiming to change so late.
In most europe non electrics will be banned by then so this is like saying water is wet.
Sounds ambitious to achieve this in just 8 years, especially when 99% of trucks and vans are still diesel powered and will be for a very long time, but I guess this pledge only applies to ‘family vehicles’?
That’s quite far away.
Massive moment. The billions spent year in year out for decades on petrol expertise – gone. Gearbox engineers, carburetor experts, fuel supply chain, all gone.
It’s the right move. But traumatic for the thousands of workers who are going to need to reinvent their lives.
So peugeot will be for rich people only in 8 years, because I cannot see the price of EVs falling to afordable levels.
A small hatchback 208 costs around 30.000€ now.
What about long distance travel?
What about all people who don’t live in houses?
What about all people who park their cars outside on the streets?
What about the rising prices of energy?
What about the prices of replacing the batteries?
What about the poor?
What about winters when car batteries are less useful, use more power to heat the car?
I hope this trend dies down.
hm, but electric engines are pretty reliable, so how will they be able to keep their image?
As they say “Don’t buy cars on the letter ‘F’ like Fiat, Ford and french”.
Well that’s fortunate seeing as most ICE cars will be banned from manufacturer by then.
Gosh, aren’t they the forward-thinking, lead-the-way types, eh?
I would love to see only electric cars on streets. But I do not understand how everyone will be able to charge their cars.

In Norway 90% of new car is electric. How people charge their cars there?
A big shame for us car enthusiasts. Peugeot hot hatches were underrated. But it is what it is.
