I spoke to Swisscom about replacing my copper installation.
(I even said that I was willing to pay for it entirely)
It seems that this is not possible because there is an ongoing federal opposition for several years. It is not possible to replace an existing installation. Only for new buildings.
Is this true?
We have just built my brother’s house 200 metres from mine (same street, same town). He has a 10 Gbps optical fiber installation. And I have a 2006 installation in copper max 85/25 Mbps.
I live in West Lausanne and they are progressively installing fiber in all existing buildings for several years. I don’t understand…
Edit: Swisscom hotline 0800 477 587 and [map](https://www.swisscom.ch/fr/business/constructiondureseau/informationsreseau.html)
And see comments for links about the administrative court ongoing.

I’m in a somewhat similar situation. All buildings around me have FTTH with 10Gbps available and the building we live at is supplied with copper. I spoke with the renting agency who told me that they would need Swisscom to make them an offer to get fiber installed, so I emailed Swisscom about it who basically told me that when they did the fiber in the street they made an offer to the building owner who refused the installation and if we wanted fiber in the building, the renting agency would have to request it to Swisscom. Once again I contacted the agency about it and never obtained an answer.
I have the exact same problem. Does anyone know what this is about?
From Swisscom:
*Information on network extension*
*Your property has been connected to the fibre-optic network by Swisscom. However, it is currently not possible to order fibre-optic products in the property concerned due to an* ***official order (ruling by the Federal Administrative Court regarding Swisscom’s network construction).***
*Availability at the location is currently restricted.*
*The actual speed may differ from the data specified above. A binding network check can only be performed when processing your order.*

It’s a bit more complicated than that. Swisscom could build P2P infrastructure but not P2MP.

Well Swisscom could provide you with fiber connection, but mustn’t go live with it
Quick and dirty: they built the optical fiber network with just one fiber. However, WEKO and some other organisation feared this would give Swisscom too powerful a position in most of Switzerland when it comes to fast internet. They want Swisscom to install 4 fibers wherever they build it. This also means that where they already built only 1 line (without space for more), they are no longer in compliance –> existing contracts are fine, new ones not so much.
Swisscom of course does not want to foot the bill to reopen every such installation to widen the channels so that 4 fibers could be passed through…
Is your brother by any chance in line of view? A wireless beam network might be an option.
