You can buy raw *Schweinezunge* (cured or entirely untreated) and cook it yourself, but that’s sold in one piece. The sliced version is already cooked, and typically eaten on buttered slices of bread.
Some love it, some find the idea of eating tongue gross, some have merely never tried or even heard of it. I haven’t so far met anyone who genuinely disliked the taste or texture itself.
You can also get *Rinderzunge* (beef tongue), either raw and in one piece, or cooked and sliced.
