As we all know, the beloved 9€-Ticket will no longer exist starting from 1. of September. Apparently, many people are unaware of how to optimise their rail travel experience or even about their passenger rights, so I thought I would start a list of tips, any additions are welcome 🙂
1.: [passenger rights (english)](https://www.bahn.com/en/booking-information/passenger-rights/passenger-rights-in-rail-transport)
2.: pricing:
– when being aware of journeys ahead, book in advance, as the limited contingent of „super sparpreis“ tickets will eventually be gone.
– in the DB Navigator app, you can look at the best prices available for you route
– think of maybe travelling at an unusual time of day, as tickets then are cheaper, if possible
3.: look if there are any alternative destination stations near your actual destination that may have cheaper prices (also, for bigger cities like Berlin you can look for trains to BERLIN instead of a specific train station, which will combine all big train stations in your search)
4.: if you are somewhat regularly travelling by train (and sometimes even if you take one particularly expensive journey), also especially if you are under 27, look at the [BahnCards](https://www.bahn.com/en/offers/bahncard), especially the BahnCard 25 or myBahncard25. For as little as 36€ (as an under 27y.o. person) you get 25% discount on all tickets. If you are over 26, it costs 57€. Note that the BahnCard50 only has 50% on the expensive flexpreis, not on the sparpreis or super Sparpreis (the savings tickets). Therefore, even the BahnCard 50 only discounts 25%.
Any additions in the comments are very welcome!
Edit: completely forgot about BahnCards!

4. See if EDEKA still has any Egal-Wohin-Ticket vouchers left, for when you need to get an ICE on a very short notice.
