Surprised they haven’t already. Parking isn’t free anywhere anymore. It’s a shame
Bad enough but charging staff a fee too is ridiculous, even if it is discounted.
Corks biggest shopping centre is still free and 2 other shopping centres are still free too.
Seems to be a Dublin thing to charge at a shopping centre I taught they were trying to discourage people driving into city centres for shopping?
It’s like they’re actively encouraging people to use online retail.
Should adopt a validated system like in the states.
I know its unavoidable in Dublin, but here in Athlone there’s Golden Island SC (free) and AthloneTC (paid for).
I’ve NEVER parked in the TC car park.
What a great way to encourage people to shop at Blanchardstown instead! Greedy gobshites, start the clock on the entire center being deserted in 10 years
Have shops or shopping centres not realised yet that paid parking drives people away. The number of times I’ve been in town for an appointment maybe and thought about going into a shop only to remember I have 5 minutes left on the ticket, or not bothered going at all because I don’t have change for the meter. Are shops not losing business as a result?
Well that’s me getting all my shopping online then. Fuck you
Seriously, do they have to ruin everything? Everyone is a rotten shower of money grabbing cunts in this country.
Seems to be €€ in all of the southside kips. It’s still free in Airside, Donnycarney, Northside and the Omni.
Let’s try to attract people back to brick and mortar retail by increasing the cost to do so. Real forward thinking there.
Amazon for me this Christmas.
Hehe. They’ll wonder why the shops are empty. Blaming the charges on bus connect and not admitting to a money grab.
I’ve been to Liffey valley a few times, but no more.
How is this making the news?
I wonder if many people just leave their cars there and bus it into town? It’s always crazy trying to get parking there.
“And with that, I never shopped in Liffey Valley again…”
Queue the “No one wants to shop anymore” articles after this stroke of genius.
There’s alternative shopping centres at nearly every other exit of the M50 from Pavillions, Charlestown, Blanch, The Square down to Carrickmines etc.
every year im in a panic getting xmas presents there and i fuckin hate it
this will be the year i just buy off amazon early
thanks bezos
Can’t wait for the breathable air tax
Bus connects will be the excuse but really is just a handy reason for them to grab a load of parking money as easily could have had first hour free etc like other places
Its a shite shopping centre aswell from my perspective as a male. A few outliers but largely naff
They know what they are doing anyway with no grace period because most sane people want to get out of that dump in under an hour
Most places will give you first hour for free… sneaky.
I wonder will anywhere validate parking e.g.M&S.
I think people will still go tbh and just give out about it.
Fuck Liffey Valleys car park anyway. It’s a god awful car park, probably one of the worst in any shopping centre I’ve ever seen and it’s near on impossible to find a space for at minimum 10-15 minutes every time I go there. Me and my family don’t even bother going anymore together because if we go to anywhere else like Blanch or Dundrum or the Swords Pavilion, it’s generally easy enough to get parking near each other. Liffey Valley usually ends up with me at one end of the car park and the family at the other end. It’s a bleeding terribly laid out car park.
When the planet is burning up, making it more inconvenient for car users is a good thing. Saying this as a driver, btw.
A nice new parking area with a built-in incentive not to use it.
Tesco car park is going to be manic.
Shop online like normal people. Forget that place.
> For some time, customers and staff have been telling us parking is an issue at Liffey Valley
What a bunch of absolute lies. Liffey Valley parking is very handy and there is never trouble getting a spot.
Place is a kip anyway
Out if the options on the M50 loop it’s one of the worst centres, blanch is not even 10 mins up the road I can see them loosing business over this.
Its to stop people using it as a park n ride into town and also parking charges get rid of the cheapskate “dis is a ripoff i nevur shop der again” crowd, attracting higher end shoppers and stores
Brilliant. Will massively disincentivise driving and there is already plenty of public transport.
Will still use it if going to the cinema, cheaper than anywhere else even with the parking fee
Liffey la vida loca.
I wonder if this make city centre/main St shops more attractive, or online shopping more attractive, or just both.
Problem is we all pay for the parking at Liffey Valley, its just “socialised” across the whole shopping centre in prices for the stuff, at least now those who use public transport might get a better price for their goods than they would if they put the cost of maintaining the car park on everyone.
We totally undercount how expensive it is to maintain surface car parking long term, such poor land use I swear to god
I live close and it took me an hour to get into it from the M50 off ramp there about 6 weeks ago, took another 40 mins to get out. If they think I’m going to pay for the privilege of sitting in a queue in and out they can fuck off.
Wouldn’t go near the place now. The first hour being charged is just ruthless.
Well it’s not too bad for €2.50 for 3 hours of parking, you should see what Park Rite and Q Park charge for their places!
I can see this back firing as security staff there already have to put up with enough crap on a daily basis and this will just add to it, the centre is already struggling to keep security staff unless they offload the car park to a private company like the Ilac centre did.
Ring Joe Duffy.
It’s not even a good centre! All the shops they have are like the small shitty versions of the proper shops. Penneys are TK Maxx are particularly crap.
They can go and shite, I’d rather go to Blanchardstown anyway
I’d rather go Dundrum and pay for the shops they have
Never liked going there anyway. Least I’ve a good excuse to convince herself to just do her shopping online.
They have the worst car park – they’re doing loads of construction at the moment and its total chaos.
Mad
Vandalism time. Nothing a few smashed barriers and pay machines won’t solve
If they’re supposedly rolling this out in conjunction with the new bus interchange… surely they have to wait for that interchange to be completed and in-use **first**?
