Tory suprises no-one by showing they’ve always been a cunt
I’d love to say I am shocked but I’m not, they have nothing but disdain for the NHS. They do anything for us to pay for everything we get done on the NHS.
My opinion of her and the Morden-conservative party can’t really get any worse at this point. None of us here have a real choice in our leader for the next 2 years and these articles are just incredibly deflating; like poking a raw-wound for fun. Even if we could vote in this upcoming leadership contest the choice is between a douche and a turd sandwich. It’s awful.
I really hope the lasting damage they’re able to inflict on the country isn’t too severe and that the British electorate comes to their senses and elects a party with their actual interests at heart in 2025. I realise modern labour leadership upsets a lot of people and that they’re not radical enough compared to Corbyn but they’re still a lot better than the conservatives despite what a lot of people here say. A glance at the voting record of any Labour MP compared to any Conservative MP makes that abundantly clear and you can look it up online (it’s freely accessible!). They will at a minimum course correct the ship, protect what remains of our national institutions and give us a real chance at systemic change in the future.
All this negativity surrounding Kier is exactly what the conservatives and the right-wing media want. A disenfranchised and broken left. We need to encourage people to vote and get them enthused otherwise there’s no going back from this conservative austerity and creeping fascism.
Ahhh yes coming from the same person that said uk workers need “more graft”
Hasn’t one part of this already been done, child benefit is not universal anymore. Or have I got that wrong?
Don’t threaten tory party members with a good time
Don’t see any harm in this suggestion. GP payments are made at the point of use in other European countries like France and Sweden.
Paying per use tends to make people value things a bit more and would reduce time wasters and hypochondriacs.
Is this topic a she said something 13 years ago so she must be horrible. Not that I like ether candidate but you would be able to drag up stuff like this on anyone, we all have had ideas or views in the past that don’t line up with current ways of thinking.
These ideas are just proposals for how to make the NHS run better.
Should doctors be paid less? Well, the average GP earns >£100k per year at the moment. What do you think?
Having patients charged for GP appointments isn’t such a terrible idea, they do that in France to prevent people making unnecessary appointments. As long as the fee is reimbursed. Although it goes against the free at the point of need thing.
As for means testing child benefit. Yeah, of course, why aren’t we doing this? Why does someone earning tens of thousands of pounds more than me get the exact same amount of child benefit. They don’t need it. Edit: apparently we do some means testing on child benefit now. The conservatives changed it in 2013. Good.
People love painting the Tories as evil bogiemen and I find it the most off putting thing about the left wing. Address the arguments, don’t just call them evil. Convince me you are right and they are wrong. At the moment you’re like a religious fundamentalist saying everything is “the devil”.
I’d be honestly very suprised if we go into the next general election with the NHS still a nationalised entity – I know they’ve privatise a lot of it but I truly think she’s just waiting to get her claws in it and truly finish it off. I can see us all paying for it in the near future.
I’m old enough to remember 3 day weeks, countless recessions, record inflation and countless strikes, but in all honesty, these feel like the darkest times. And they just seem to be getting worse.
Potentially a way to reduce the burden on doctors imposed by those with shit-life syndrome and no-friends syndrome, and reduce waiting times for those with a legitimate health needs.
Here’s a different take. I’m originally from the Caribbean where hospital care is all state funded, but GPs are mostly private. All towns have public GP run health centres where if you can’t afford a private GP you go there where you’ll probably wait 2-4 hours to see a GP, but the majority of people can and do afford GP appointments.
The cost of living is equivalent to the U.K. and a GP visit which lasts 10-15 minutes costs the equivalent of £15-25 as the GP controls the price. Very posh neighbourhoods might see GPs charging closer to £40/visit. Also GPs here don’t lose their skill sets in terms of minor suturing and cutting out small lumps and bumps and abscesses, so you don’t actually have to go to A&E for those things. There is a fee on top of the visit if a GP has to do a small procedure which is usually the same as the visit fee. GPs in the U.K., while they graduate with a double bachelor of medicine and bachelor of SURGERY, aren’t encouraged to keep their surgical skills.
It works imo because everyone is able to get same day GP appointments with about a 2h wait at the busiest of GPs vs a 2 week wait here.
Because GPs are private and they’re responsible for their own income, they choose to work the full 5 days a week 8-10 hours a day and the majority of them choose to do half day Saturdays and Sundays. The result being that most GPs can earn double or triple what a full time GP in the U.K. earns. Also means there’s no weekend backlog going to A&E or flooding the GP office on Monday.

A good idea. Would cut out the time wasters.
