Engie spreekt klare taal in brief aan premier De Croo: “Kerncentrales langer openhouden is onmogelijk”

  1. And then when you read the article, you see that most of the main objections are the time needed for:

    – consultation with the government

    – judicial process

    – realization of investments

So that’s a lot less “impossible” and a lot more about putting pressure on the government. Especially given that Engie is also fishing for those lucrative gas plant subsidies that they’ll miss out on if the nuclear exit is reversed.

  2. I wonder what De Croo hoped to gain from this. Was this the answer he expected, and is he now happy he can blame Engie for not being cooperative in keeping the plants open?

Why else does the ~~top~~ highest-ranking politician of our country so publicly announce he will send a letter if he does not already know what the response will be?

  3. It sounds surreal to me that they are bickering for a solution that is needed by 01/01/2026. What they need, takes fucking time. Especially in Belgium. Whatever is decided in the end, I feel like the gas plants or whatever wont be ready by 01/01/2026.

  4. Mmm gotta love that top notch overcomplicated issue right here.

All silliness aside, Groen lost all credibility when suggesting gas plants to replace nuclear. We´ve got all this knowledge right here in de Kempen for an almost CO2 neutral solution, invest in new nuclear plants instead of gas would have been the logical choice but instead they think voters are against it so they go for gas…

  5. Engie will cash on this anyways. Either making the govmnt (ok, taxpayer) bleed for keeping nuclear plants open or buy cashing in very generous subsidies on the gas plants.

  6. It was a bad decision to award them the gas central. Clearly they are not saying this without the agenda.

Why should they continue to operate a nuclear plant at own cost, if they can get a gas plant subsidized ? Makes sens they say this.

I wonder how the cards would have been if another provider won the gas projects

  8. So if it takes about 20 years to build a nuclear plant, and it’s inevitable that the ones we have now need to shut down, why didn’t De Croo order to start building new ones the moment he got the news, if he knows we are already 20 years behind on schedule?

  9. Let’s postpone the inevitable a bit longer, keep going back on agreements made and then wonder why we need afschakelplannen and why there is a kloof tussen de politiek en de burger.

  10. Let me just throw it out there that if i would just show up and be present at my job but without actually doing my job, i would NOT get paid.
