Is it just me, or have the spiders the last few years doubled in size

  1. Climate change.

By 2050, scientists are predicting spiders as large as fully grown humans.

    We’re all fucked.

  2. Exact type and size I caught Saturday night… Not afraid of spiders but seen 1 that big in the corner of my eye caught me off guard into a glass and out the back door it went!

  3. To be fair I’ve put a couple pounds on over Covid myself. This 8-legged lad just needs a treadmill and a detox

  4. Rinsed one of them down the bath drain the other day. Plugged it for good measure and then washed out the bath so my sister could take a bath in a perfectly clean tub (she’s very particular)

  5. I found one in my garden that was so big it should have been paying rent.

Apparently there’s a breed of false widows that have invaded Ireland recently, might be one of them.

  6. I stopped killing spiders in my early 20’s after realising that spider-babies return for revenge!! Now they just get evicted to the garden, there’s been a few shocking encounters where I’ve had to use a 2L mixing bowl to trap some monstrosities 👀

  7. Saw one in the garage on Saturday, thing was absolutely massive, was as big as one of those red blocks you see in walls.

Thank fuck my mate was there and was able to get him in a pint glass, the things paralyse me, fuckin arachnophobia, pain in the arse.

  8. Meanwhile on `r/totallynotspiders`: “Hey, anyone noticed humans getting shorter recently?” :DD

  9. A couple weeks ago i went downstairs at like 1 o’clock in the morning. As i went through a door i felt someghing land on my head.i thought nothing of it but when i brushed it of i heard a clump on thd floor and saw a big ol spider scuttle away. Scared the shit outa me

  10. had my first encounter with them giant house spiders yesterday. was sitting on my bed in the dark grabbing around to find something and instead I grabbed something huge that started freaking out. thought I somehow grabbed a month that started flying in my hand and threw it. turned the light on and it was one of these fellas running about on my bed. im lucky I’m not afraid of spiders so I just caught the guy and got him out. definitely freaked me out for a sec though

  11. The false widow count is going through the roof – I’ve seen so many of them over the last year

It might be just me, but they don’t appear like “normal” spiders at all – very sinister looking when you see them close up, really, really shiny reflective back (where generally Irish spiders, even the massive ones, have a more dull “matt” finish lol) and what looks like a skull on their body

    Scary looking things

  12. Am I wrong in thinking that you see these more in September/October? That seems to be the time of year I start noticing them in or around the house but it could be pure coincidence

  13. I pretty much leave all spiders in the house alone. They’re doing work I’m too lazy to do. I would happily torture all wasps on the planet though.

This is from 2 days ago – unfortunately, the beer glass was the only one I had available.

Large body – absolutely enormous legs on the bugger.

Transported outside and let loose in the hedge to terrorise the local insect population

  15. Giant house spiders, always come indoors at the end of summer. Their size has always been big. I have a number of posts on facebook going back 10+ years taking pictures of them.
