All this wasted time by the media talking about energy rationing by the Government and fuck all coverage of the insane energy costs incoming is finally coming home to roost.
If only they had saved all the money from the vat rate cut that they didn’t pass on to the customers.
One of the things covid thought us is that pubs are too expensive.
Now even with MUP it’s much cheaper to have your few beers at home and not go to the pub as often.
They need to reduce their prices to get people going back there.
You can buy 20 bottles of Bulmers for around €25 euro, in a pub that would cost nearly €100.
The pubs got insane money during covid. If they go, they go.
Pubs are insanely expensive as is in Ireland. If they want to bump up the prices even further then some of them will just have to be content with possibly going bust.
This will truely be our winter of discontent.
Pubs have those huge fridges behind the the bar, are they expensive to run?
There is only so much people are willing to pay for a pint. At this point the pubs are fast approaching that threshold. The government has done enough to help them lately. If some of them go, they go.
It bears repeating: govt by the vintners, for the vintners, of the people shall not perish from the earth
Surely the government can just increase the cost of alcohol in stores and off licences again to support irish pubs.
Does anyone here think that a pub is a good investment?
for all the talk of how friendly the government is to the vintners I still wouldn’t buy a pub.
Governments really should be doing as much as they possibly can to help people and businesses. People should not have to struggle the way they do in a civilised country.
Are the pubs complaining again?
Absolutely hilarious seeing how many people are saying pubs are too expensive in Ireland and not one mention that the main reason for this is the excessively high alcohol excise duty that the government take which is miles above the EU average.
Moaning about the price of a pint, what do you want them to charge like?
I’m generally not miserable with myself when it come to the price of a pint, if the pint is €6 then so be it
That said I was in the BrewDog place in Dublin at the weekend and a pint of lager was 7.75 a pint.
First time I’ve ever thought twice about buying more than 2 rounds tbh.
Long term the industry could be in trouble, more people will drink at home or use eh “non alcoholic” will substances
Clearly the only solution is to tax off license sales even more
Double edged sword. It costs you more to keep a place open, heating, electric costs etc etc all mount up. Meanwhile consumers have less money to spend.
Your business is costing you more week on week, for a lesser return. We are in serious trouble.
Vintners association got the minimum alcohol pricing laws brought in so now drinkers are struggling to afford to go out anyway …….lose lose 🤷♂️
Hard to feel sorry for them now…
A lot of commentary on the price of pints, this should be about the rising cost of energy while energy suppliers are making huge profits.
The people who pushed for minimum unit pricing to fuck over anyone who wanted to drink in the comfort of their own homes are complaining again and about something that’s going to impact all of us?
I haven’t a violin small enough for the wankers.
The government might start listening now if it’s affecting their buddies in the Vintners Association
Poor bastards. They should mark up the prices of their drinks so they can make 600% profit instead of only 500%
It’s the tax. Reduce the tax.
whats the threat.
Honestly it’s getting to the stage where I don’t know if I’ll keep going out to the pubs. Myself and my mates have always gone out to town on a Saturday night with the odd session here and there at one of our houses, but if there’s there’s more increases to the price of drink in the pubs well just always drink at home. It’s getting ridiculous altogether, the pubs were always expensive but they were a way to socialise, to have a moment to just forget about the rat race of life and to enjoy a few drinks with mates, cost of the night be damned. Not a bit of wonder the young Irish people are emigrating, getting to the point where the country is too expensive to live in.
The vinters association is throwing a hissy fit? Must be a day that ends in “y.”
we can just not pay
Couldn’t give a shite, much prefer going to friends houses for a session than paying over the odds for drink in a shite pub.
Makes me feel better about my decisions not to go out in Ireland under any circumstances. I put the 100€ a week/2 weeks into a holiday fund instead. It’ll be 10€ a drink here before Christmas
Close the pubs!
It’s their way of telling us come winter we will be paying temple bar prices everywhere in the country. Soon as the budget hits the publicans will hike up the prices
There always warning aren’t they.
Do these people ever not have something to complain about?
Publicans crying again.
Any pub that charges more than 5 euro for a pint doesn’t have my sympathy. Sorry, my sympathy is a scarce resource that I have to ration
