Truss hints she could scrap motorway speed limits and pledges to ban smart motorways if she becomes PM

  1. I am trying my best to, you know, find some perks to the incoming Conservative PM. I literally cannot think of even one.

  2. The problem is people think/will thank the PM has the power to just make any changes they like, but that’s not true

  3. So she’s ruled out new taxes and energy rationing. What’s left? Letting people freeze to death because wealthier people bid up the price of energy so they can’t afford heating? That does sound like the Tory way …

  4. Is she tapped in the head? Honestly when did common sense not be a requirement or a desire trait in a potential leader. We may be watching her eating the leather seat at pmq.

  5. Would she even have the ability to do that? She’s just saying random shit which she thinks grouchy people who want Britain to be an empire again would love.

  6. Has it occurred to her to come up with policy that people need right now.

Nobody sensible cares about the speed limit on motorways – it’s not an issue that the future PM should be spending time thinking about

  7. Tackling the big issues then. What’s next liz? scrapping laws banning cellphone usage while driving? perhaps upping th elimit of how many little tipples you can have before getting behind the wheel to trot off home?

The woman is not only a bloody menace, she’s an idiot too and that’s never a good combination to be.

  8. now i can drive to the funeral of my elderly relatives who died of cold / starvation and be back in time catch a spot in the warmth bank before it closes forever due to fuck all funding.

    neat!

  9. Smart motorways were a cheap way of adding capacity, instead of widening. The simpler way would have been to prosecute and ban middle lane hoggers.

  10. Smart motorway are pretty dangerous but it’s a bit late now that they are already built. Plus you won’t invest in the rail at all which is a good replacement so not really going to do shit are you Liz trussq

  11. Smart Motorways suck, or at least the part of them involving using hard shoulders as a running lane does, might be her first sensible policy idea

  12. “Who likes me?”
    “Petrol heads perhaps Liz?”
“Don’t petrol heads always vote Tory?”
“Well, yeeessss, but maybe not even petrol heads will vote for you this time…..”

  13. If I become PM we will have free pizza fridays, i will cut VAT on all alcohol, chips will count at 1 of your 5 a day…..

  14. The sensible thing to say would be she was making funding available to add in extra emergency refuge areas on existing smart motorways to make people using them feel safer.
Overall however, transport investment does need to be diverted into public transport.

Lifting Motorways speed limits will bring no benefits whatsoever unless you like arriving at your mother in laws 5 mins earlier.

  15. Who gives a shit about speed limits or smart motorways when we’re heading into the worst energy crisis since the 70’s?

If this is going to be her focus then she really needs to get another job.

  16. Putting the environment to one side for the moment, I don’t have much of a problem with sections of unrestricted motorway.

So long as those sections are upgraded and traffic laws a rigidly enforced. All those middle-lane hogging tailgaters can sod right off.

Although before we go down this road (sorry), I’d like to see the cost of living tackled. Also, this policy flies in the face of what we need to do on climate change.

  17. Hey everybody! If you want to ask Truss for a favor, now’s the time! she’s doped up, or dying, or something!

  18. The only part of smart motorways I’m against is the lack of hard shoulder and the fact you’re allowed to drive on it when there is one. The rest of it is fine.

The lane closures are for safety of emergency workers, stranded vehicles, objects in the road etc. Fully support that.

Temporary speed limits are set on demand to aid traffic flow. The lower the speed limit the more cars you can fit into a given area because they can travel closer together. It actually gets you there faster and potentially avoids jams. It also gives a chance for any blockages further up the road to clear before you get there. They’re very beneficial but everyone ignores them and says “bUt ThERes noThInG HapPeNninG”.

  19. Lmfao the booze is not killing enough plebs also there are too few plebs being killed in and by car accidents I indent to amend that

  20. Ah yes, appealing to the small criminal nature of the average person. Everybody wants to go 80 on the motorway and everybody hates those smart gantries that flash up a big 50 because two hours ago somebody braked a little for a pigeon.

Just so everyone is aware, there’s clear research that those smart motorway gantry things *do* work to clear traffic much faster, but only when they are actually obeyed. If you’re speeding up and braking between them, you’re just creating traffic.

  21. Would love the lack of speed limit. People will quickly self adjust at how much fuel you burn travelling over 58mph.

Actually they already have due to prices

  22. What the shuddering fuck?

Has she even driven on a UK motorway at rush hour?

Smart motorways need to go though. The amount of times I have driven on a stretch and there’s been an accident and the motorway is completely clear and the signs are still on 40 about an hour after it’s cleared, conveniently right where the speed camera is…..
