Poland puts its WW2 losses at $1.3 trillion, demands German reparations

  1. Nah, we’ll just wait for Russia to invade, so they can finally take the turn in the next 80 years. /s

  2. German speakers ain’t good at paying war reporations look at Austria. In WW1 they killed over 27% of Serbias total population and never paid reporations.

  3. What coincidence. The German government estimates the damages caused in the Oder river at exactly the same amount. It cancels out. Germany and Poland are even once again!

What was that? Unfounded and unreasonable? Yes, yes it is.

  4. Please don’t judge us based on the insane ravings of the little wannabe dictator and his cronies. Majority of people (I dare say even PIS supporters) do not believe in this insane notion. What PIS is trying to do is to appeal to the insane far-right, some idiots who are gonna be swayed by the idea of promised money and old people who can be manipulated by our state TV. They are promising money which they know they will never see – but the goal is to make the voters believe it is something that can be achieved. Plus they are toying with the idea of evil Germany and “we deserve it, they owe us” ideology.

Basically a bunch of lies and manipulation designed to make some undecided voters choose PIS. Sadly the clown tactics are common in Polish politics 🙁

  5. Imagine demanding money from a bunch of people for whatever happened decades ago and who have nothing to do with it…

Time for native Americans to announce their “reparation” claims. /s

  6. German answer: *Nein.*

You demand reparations as part of a peace treaty, as a condition to end hostilities. The other side agrees to such terms to stop an ongoing war.

Observation would indicate that Germany is currently, in fact, *not* at war with Poland.

So on what basis is the Polish government planning to make these claims, and more crucially, how does it intend to enforce them?

This is unnecessary political theatre, at a time when European unity is *crucial* in the face of Russian aggression.

  7. That’s boring. Germany should demand reparations then. They were the ones who suffered the most destruction and 8 million Germans were killed during the war.

  8. Does this mean Poland should return the territories they got from Germany? I ask because they’re saying they were “forced” by the Soviets to null the reparations. The same would be true for the territories they received after WW2.

  9. Opens a big can of worms. how about think about handing back Silesia? Yeah thought not. Why not let sleeping dogs lie. Why dredge up the past. The Germans today shouldn’t have to pay today. Poland was obviously a victim but let the past be the past. I’m not sure what his angle is at doing this

  10. Lol.

Well, I guess given Poland’s arms build up, they could start applying pressure on Germany, but the reality is that Russia is the bigger problem and this build up is for defense against Russian aggression given recent actions in Ukraine.

This is just commentary for domestic voter consumption.

  11. Well, you can have the money, but then we want east Germany back. That was the deal. You got land instead of money. If you want to have money now, then hand the land over.
