NHS leaders warn of service cuts as hospital energy bills soar | Hospitals

  1. I never really thought about a hospital having to budget for energy. I just assumed along with things like the police and fire brigade they just got the energy through some sort of deal that they didn’t have to concern themselves with.

  2. Look everybody, you have to realise that the real victims are the energy CEO’s who will have their record profits marginally dented if we ask them to not let thousands die over the winter.

  3. I work in a 24/7 lab and we use a lot of energy, as do the other labs at our hospital. The number of analysers and computers we have plugged in is intense and we just don’t stop running; we even need massive AC units to cool us down as a result of all of or equipment. We’re just one department in the hospital too. It is times like this that people will realise how they take the NHS for granted. We don’t just operate magically, we are a very resource-heavy industry and things like Brexit, COVID and now a cost of living crisis hit us very hard. If people want a service that is as good as it is now (which is miles off what is acceptable), then they might want to consider the true cost of that really is.

  4. Not surprised… Work in a kitchen in NHS .. the waste is unreal, gas hobs left on all day not even being used(sometimes all night too), lights on everywhere like a light house even when there’s no one in the kitchen… Insane amount of food waste(not just patient food waste) and staff can’t take food home they have to go to the bin otherwise you’re stealing food (as we’ve been told)
