Former Tory minister confirms party deliberately misled people of Wales over EU funding

  1. “Lied” – the term is “lied”.

And sure I know lied and misled are synonyms, but I feel the latter goes over a bit softer.

Maybe the parliamentary language thing – has anyone ever called someone a “misleader” and been booted out…?

Perhaps that’s how Blackford should’ve put it. “I am not calling the honourable gentleman a liar… But a professional misleader”.

  2. They lied to a lot of people. The levelling up promises turned out to be a total lie.

It’s amazing when the incumbent political party just outright lies to a big chunk of its population.

I hope the Tory party ceases to exist after the slaughter they’ll receive at the next GE.

  3. So where are the repercussions for this? “Deliberately mislead” sorry, they should be banged up for this. Actually, everyone who voted for triggering article 50 without a PLAN should have lost their jobs.

  4. No way, I don’t believe for a second a Tory would lie about a single thing. Ever. They are so trustworthy, that’s why they keep getting elected.

  5. Same goes for any part of the country that benefitted from EU funding, really. Any area that gets EU funding is not an area wealthy enough for Tories care about and would always be at the back of the queue. Rishi said so himself.

I know everyone likes to dance on the grave of the likes of Cornwall when they moan about the cash not being replaced but the people who told them it would really should suffer some consequences, too.

  6. >As part of their 2019 general election campaign the Conservatives promised that Wales would receive “not a penny less” as a result of Brexit. Many people took this to mean that the Welsh Government would have a role in allocating this money (as they have done for 22 years as part of the EU).

What’s deliberately misleading about that? They clearly said Wales would receive the funding, not that the Welsh government would receive it. This is a Mirror group publication btw, they bought out many of these local publications a few years ago to spread their left-wing propaganda disguised as local news. You can spot them by the cookie-cutter website format, many are just called [PlaceName]Online or [PlaceName]Live.

  7. They misled everyone because everything they said was a lie

You’d still have to be dim or evil to vote Brexit (or Tory) though

  8. No fucking shit.

Can’t believe anyone would think that the Tories were ever going to replace EU funding on a 1:1 basis.

  9. ~~Former~~ Tory ~~minister confirms~~ party deliberately mis~~led~~[leads] people ~~of Wales over EU funding~~

  10. >we’ll be using good Conservative principles on how it should be spent

Good conservative principles simply don’t exist
