  1. >Councillor Brian Lawlor, who is understood to have just returned from a three-week holiday to Australia, refused to comment on the matter and said “don’t ever ring me again” when contacted for comment

    Sounds like a lovely fella.

  2. > Cllr Lawlor hit the headlines earlier this year when it was revealed that he had appeared in a number of promotional Scientology videos despite being a vocal critic of the controversial group in the past when they opened a large community centre in his constituency.

    > Cllr Lawlor was involved in a number of community projects with Scientologists and appeared in official Scientology videos promoting their work.

    > He even wore Scientology branded clothing while posing for promotional pictures with the group while Scientologists wore Hi-Viz jackets promoting Cllr Lawlor.

    That’s just bizarre

Scientology promoter to boot. This lad just loves money doesn’t he. God bless

  4. I mean if he’s not earning enough he’s entitled – is this any different to just randomly targeting a family on hap ? 😅

  5. Earned 60k. , not according to the article he got 7500 in vouched expenses, that’s reimbursement not earned

    So he earned 53k

  6. I had my HAP refused because it was for a house share and my rent was going to be €600, over the limit for house shares on HAP.

How in the good dirty fuck did this cunt get HAP?

  7. This is a nonsense hitpiece unless they actually say that he isn’t eligible. If he’s eligible, he’s eligible. Socialist policies are just that, socialist. For everyone.

I hope they write an article soon about how he isn’t eligible

  8. He seems like an absolutely ghastly man but I don’t think this is something to be outraged about.

We should be more outraged that the housing market is so broken that someone on €60k is eligible for HAP.

  9. HAP needs to be removed. Government shouldn’t be using tax payers money to prop up extortionate rents in this country. Absolute joke of a country at the moment

  10. This shouldn’t be surprising, his net income is well under the 30k Net income limit? If he has a wife, potentially who doesn’t work, and kids, then he’s absolutely entitled to his monthy HAP payment. This is the same social welfare support system everyone on here absolutely loves, but now that it’s someone you don’t deem “should” be getting it, now its horrible? Come off it.

  11. I don’t see what the problem is here – either he is entitled to it or not. If he is, then what is the story? The high level of income you can have and still qualify for HAP?

On an unrelated matter, the Scientology stuff makes him sound like a complete head the ball.

  12. The surprising thing for me is the independent doing a story like this that doesn’t involve a SF Councillor

  13. I know a girl who couldn’t get Hap because when they did an inspection at her parents council house in 2021 they said she had everything she needed there and both parents are in their 70’s and the house goes back to the council when both parents die. Her and her partner and child have since moved into a one bedroom apartment and are paying over €1200 a month it’s scandalous

  14. Only €60k and that’s including expenses?

I mean I’m not on that, but I have a job that’s nowhere near as stressful as being a politician.

  15. I know it’s €35K net to qualify for HAP. Either way, it’s depressing as fuck. I’m on €60K a year and don’t qualify for it. Single income too, so trying to buy right now is utter shite.

  16. Why the fuck is he not fired on the spot..they can just take the piss over and over and fuck all gets done about it

  17. I thought HAP was only for people making average or below average wage or people struggling, since when is 60k average.

  18. > He also works part-time as a driver in Dublin Bus and is understood to earn between €20,000 to €25,000 a year, bringing his total income last year to over €60,000 or around €53,000 if vouched expenses claimed from the council are discounted.

Man has a second job, makes more money. What a non-story.
