Great political map of🇨🇭! 👉N-S and E-W replaced by axes that sum up main differences in votes: liberal-conservative & links-right 👉Big cities look alike whatever the language 👉Jura closer to big cities than to other rural areas

  1. Could someone help me out with the difference between Left/Liberal Right/Conservative? Is it economic vs. cultural?

Also, is there a motivation for which specific settlements are labelled? I see 5 towns in Cantons Geneva and Ticino labelled but nothing in Vaud and Valais other than Lausanne and Sion. It also looks like the more extreme points are not labelled other than Unteriberg?

  2. Is this a map from the 1800s? Because Sion was indeed a majority German-speaking town back then, but it hasn’t been for the last 150 years at least.

Also, no way Bern is further right than Geneva.

  3. Ticino left? Where the largest party is the Ticino League? Even the mayor of Lugano is from the League. The top 3 parties in Ticino are all right/centre right: League/SVP, FDP, and CVP.

  4. It’s an awesome plot. I love it. But as far I understand this dates from 2009, right? I would be careful in drawing conclusion from something that is more than 10 years old.

  5. This map is utterly crappy if it is missing the most basic thing for a map with a chromatic gradient which is a legend.

  6. I’d be curious to see where Renens (VD) fits in this; I always heard it’s the leftmost city in the country, but always wondered how true that is.

  7. I’ve been thinking about it for a bit but I can’t really wrap my head around “Linkskonservativ”.

Both are diametrically opposed at least in my worldview.
