1. This “reparation” mess is pulled completely out of the ass blatant STUPIDITY, and for no other reason than playing toward the next year’s elections. I just can’t believe what kind of morons are governing this country!

   Kaczyński is making the entire Polish nation look like morons (which to be fair, based on elections, half of us ARE.)

   Education is enough. The only thing I’d be upset about is people *not* knowing what happened, but that is fairly rare anyway. Especially in Germany! The Germans would literally know the most, right after us (the physical location).

5. Leave it already, even if we got that money PiS would waste it all. Better get rid of them first and then work on our economy, and please don’t replace them with PO, there are other parties that could do better.

7. It is clearly a case of not what one thinks but a case for some tribunal (UN? ECJ? not sure which).
   Germany know they are responsible for what they did in Poland and no one denies it, however they are of the opinion that the matter has been settled back in the 50’s when polish government forgave the reparations. Problem is that this government was a Stalin’s puppet government and that this “agreement” was pushed by the Soviet Union so as to not bankrupt the East Germany.

   The question now is whether that act of the polish governemnt was legal or should it be overturned.

   Therefore this should go to the lawyers and some international court who should decide.
   Crying about it is and ALWAYS has been either a election campaign tool or a way of diverting public opinion in Poland from more pressing problems.

   Having huge inflation and energy crisis I am not surprised that this has come up right now.

8. I wouldn’t believe in anything what Kaczynski says. PIS only tries to make enemies out of Europe, Russia and everyone else. How did he come up with this trillion? IMO it’s just to blame Germany for poor state of our National treasury.

9. I got a different solution. We know that Jews want money from Poland. German’s paid them off already. How about to make a deal with Jews and tell them that we give them the money but they will have to take it from Germans. Im pretty sure it will work very well.

10. None of the above. Matter of reparations was actually officially resolved, Poland forwent cash reparations in 1953. Instead of that we got a bunch of land (in fact – 27% of German territory), with infrastructure and equipment. So either Kaczynski is stupid, or this is intended for internal propaganda only.

Well Germanys reparations were minimal to Poland after WW2, Russia did force Poland not to take Marshal’s Plan, lots and lots of artwork and cultural heritage was taken from Poland to Germany and then taken by US,UK and France (they say as collateral for them arming us as part of their armies – which i think is absolutely bullshit)

17. As much as I don’t think we shouldn’t close it as a settled thing then still only moron would think we have any chances to get them back without any levarage aganist Germany. And we don’t have shit, we have overall absolutly terrible diplomatic relations with almost anybody. Just a cheap trick change topic about massive problems with coal supply.

18. PiS is doing this on purpose as always. Unfortunately there is no way to make Germans pay but it’s a good tool to keep them in check as they have no moral ground to claim that they shouldn’t pay. I distinctly remember alleged story published kin newspapers years ago when Erica Steinbach tried to bring up the topic of reparations for Germans that were forced to leave their estates after Poland was granted western territories. Lech Kaczyński allegedly simply send Germans estimations of reparations just for destroying Warsaw. No claims by Germans were brought up after that.

    If it was a regular war, maybe, but we’re talking about an operation to destroy any culture they deemed inferior, its not something you can let go that easily esspecially when you have people who still remember what happend.

22. I think there are other ways to ‘repay’ that can be discussed. It doesn’t have to be money, it can be financial help, the same way USA helped Germany after WW2. Invest is one of the ways, but the question is if polish politicians (especially current ones) would consider it, instead of ‘grabbing’ money back. I am just not sure if any common ‘Kowalski’ will get anything from it. I just think most of reperation money would go into politicians pockets.

23. Split the bill between Russia and Germany. Poland already received 300 billion through EU funding. Leaves 300. Those will eventually arrive anyways, for PiS to pocket. Ask Putin for the other half.

    They want to provoke an obviously negative response from German politicians, or at least German media, and that will in return create a media shitstorm between Poland right wing media and Germany, which will anger a lot of Poles.

    PiS is the most “anti-German” party in the game right now, and they want to rile up their base to steer them from all west friendly parties like KO.

25. Remember back 3 years ago when Poland said compensation for Jews would be a “victory for Hitler” I do. Sounds to me like Poland already decided that no reparations should be given…

33. I really wonder why this stuff is discussed online so much as everyone knows, these every few years occuring reparation demands are simply meant to blind and distract some boomers, whenever elections come up or whenever the government fucked up.

    There is 0 chance this would ever be paid and PIS knows that very well.
