Shock cultural… from spain

  1. In Spain and Argentina I quickly learned which good restaurants were open in the late afternoon. I have a hard time eating late. There were usually just a couple who were open.

Sometimes in Buenos Aires I would go to eat dinner and the restaurant would still have a bunch of people in it eating. I realized that they were people who were finishing lunch.

  2. If 10:30pm is a normal time to eat, what time do you guys get up for work? Like I’m an electrician and I go to bed at 10pm and get up at 4:30am for work.

  5. I’m Spanish and I like to have dinner at 20, despite I use to have it at 20:45-21 because before that I’m doing things. But 22:30 is too late for me, maybe for a special day going to a club after that or so, but if after dinner I’m going to go home, I’ll book the restaurant or have dinner at home at 21 the latest.

  6. I remember my first week in Spain facetiming friends back in New York City on a Friday night. Even with the six hour time difference, they were already at the bar while we were still having drinks at the apartment and deciding on where to go out.

  7. I feel like here in Barcelona this is not really the case. At 11:00pm I see many places already closing down for the night. Can anyone confirm? I’m a relatively recent immigrant here.

I usually go for 8:45pm which means the restaurant is only barely starting to fill up, the servers can give you attention, and then by the time you get your drinks and appetizers the restaurant feels lively. When we finish and leave there may be a line or the restaurant is crowded, at least it feels lively.
