There was something once called Policing by consent, where the public allowed the police to police, large parts of London though no longer give that consent.
When i was a young man in the 90’s i remember being pulled over, and searched or questioned multiple times, and i would see bobbies on the beat fairly regularly. Nowadays? I don’t see them anywhere.
They turn up after a crime has been committed in multiple vans, and are no use to anyone at that stage, other than to take witness statements. Even their little patrol cars (also a rare sighting), zip past pretending they can’t see anything going on, what the answer is i don’t know, but it does seem as if the populace have been abandoned.
Maybe if everybody wasn’t broke, demoralised and struggling a lot of the crime wouldn’t be occurring, but who knows.
As far as I can tell, the overall rate of crime in London has been stagnant since 2017 (which is as far back as you can go on the met police website). Homicides are basically at a 20-year low, and they compare quite favorably to other capitals in Europe. Maybe these two have access to some advanced form of mathematics that is able to account for the discrepancy?
Its almost like they have not been in power for 15 years. Headline grabbing nonsense. All this means is with the limited resources they have they will bring back stop and search and sanction human right violations on people.
As someone who lives in the north of England, it’s good to see they are finally doing something for London.
Someone should break it to them that there’s a bunch of shit going down outside of london too. Investing in the police might stop things like…I don’t know. Innocent nine year olds getting stabbed to death.
