>An Garda Síochána wants to make it clear that there are no exemptions, including those who tell gardaí they are going to the medical tent to surrender their drugs.
What is the point in harm reduction and trying to encourage drug safety if the Garda will still ruin people’s lives for a small ego boost.
>There is no defence, ‘I’m on my way to the tent’. There is no part of the ground that says it’s OK to hold illegal drugs.
Somehow I get the feeling that a guard might just happen to be outside this tent catching people
When this was announced weeks ago that there would be the drug testing, people were joking about the gardaí ruining it, I’ll need those people to give me the lotto numbers for this week please.
>Detective Superintendent Sé McCormack of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau stressed that there will be no amnesty or exception from the law when it comes to possessing illegal drugs.
>“The law hasn’t changed. There is no change in legislation to facilitate the possession of illegal or controlled drugs,” he told the Irish Examiner.
>“Some agencies have been using the word ‘amnesty’. This is not an amnesty bin. There is no amnesty bin. They are surrender bins.”
>He said that An Garda Síochána wants to make it clear that there are no exemptions, including those who tell gardaí they are going to the medical tent to surrender their drugs.
>“There is no defence, ‘I’m on my way to the tent’. There is no part of the ground that says it’s OK to hold illegal drugs.
>“If you have illegal drugs in your possession and you’re stopped and searched, and you’re found in possession, then consideration has to be given to prosecution.
>“I cannot be more clear — there is no amnesty area, there’s no sacred ground where you can say, ‘It’s OK for me to possess the drugs.’ These are illegal drugs.”
>He said the drug testing trial is a “health-led” initiative that gardaí have been involved in from the get-go.
Nothing short of a controlling wanker, can tell he was a small lad in school…
>The HSE has also stressed that it is safer not to use drugs but if a person chooses to use illegal substances, they should have the option to receive information and help in order to minimise harm.
You can have the option to get lifted as soon as you are walking to the tent.
Why would you bring drugs to Electric Picnic to just dump them, Imagine the poor bastard finds a bag of powder and decides to hand it in and then gets nicked for possession.
This was always going to be a problem when you move to a “health led” approach without doing the necessary pre-work of decriminalising them. The extension of the adult caution scheme for cannabis was useful, but ultimately too reliant on Garda discretion.
We now have a system where recreational drugs are regulated by the Minister for Health, legislation and policy is examined by the Health Committee, a junior minister in the dept of health with dept of health officials working to him are dealing with a “health led approach” to illegal drugs as mandated by an Oireachtas committee, but have no influence over how the Gardaí interact with users.
The decriminalising work should have been done first, with the necessary legislative chance and a directive coming down from the Garda Commissioner. Pretending we’ve a health led approach while people are still being prosecuted for simple possession is farcical.
HSE butchered this with big announcement and calling it an amnesty etc. I know more about the drug testing now than what acts are playing. I tell us their PR campaigns are a disaster
You can’t get your drugs back either or am I missing something. You’re essentially surrendering your drugs to not be able to use said sample and the results are mass posted on social media so it could be hard to tell if your drugs are in the ok batch
Utter joke of a system. No one will use the service, for fear of prosecution. Electric Picnic has always been full of DS undercovers so they’ll just hang around the testing area and nab people on their way out.
Ok I doubt anyone is going to go to the tent now. The DS will be watching everyone going in and out.
Is there much point to it now? The Guards are complete dinosaurs
Bins? What are those?
A load of gardai standing outside the drug testing tent sounds hilarious
All Cops Are Bastards… say it with me, folks. Fuck them all.
If an undercover guard or DS want to pump their numbers up, they can sit close by and check out every one who enters the tent. They can potentially record everyone with a phone from a distance and then raid tents belonging to anyone associated with anyone who tries to use this “service”.
I would encourage anyone to print out that article and stick it on the tent.
If the gards want to shoot fish in a barrell they should go to the artist hospitality areas that there is conveniently no garda prescence in during showtimes.
Gardai were always going to ruin a good idea
There are literally no pros to using this ‘service’.
You don’t get your drugs back. You don’t get individual results for what you submit. You can still get busted.
Fuck away off with that shite.
Tbh 90% of the time Ive seen someone have a bad reaction to yokes it’s because they double dropped, either they took more because they thought the first one didnt kick in or do anything or they just took more cuz they were wasted. And usually it’s girls. When you’re small you need to be more careful. I’ve never seen someone get into difficulty if they just took one or a half and left it at that.
Typical State Ambiguity
So what’s the plan? Bring some dummy drugs to put in the bin and throw everyone off your scent?
It’s strange that the gardai want to do their job when it comes to someone who wants to do a bit at a party
But when releasing files on pedophile Mountbatten total silence
“The law hasn’t changed. There is no change in legislation to facilitate the possession of illegal or controlled drugs,” ~Garda fuckin’ tough when it’s about finding drugs on a music festival 😂 Come on guys it’s like taking the lolly from a baby it isn’t even real police work!
How about start keeping Dublin safe, dealing with teenage gangs, prevent kids stabbing adults in IFSC at broad daylight…
I have a sneaking suspicion it was intentionally set up this way so no one would come to the tent, and then whoever set it up could claim that ALL drug testing is therefore pointless.
There’ll be a Catholic priest and a politician there to scold you and try to save your soul.
