On top of this, what happens if a non-Trussell Trust food bank cannot pay *their* energy bills? Are there any other orgs that’ll step in or will some food banks just shut down?
A perfect storm for charity organisations, now that it seems almost everyone is on the chopping block then charitable donations will most likely drop across the board just at the time demand for those charity services will be at their highest. Really exposes one of the biggest underlying issues of charities being relied on for these services in the first place.
Tory Party and Tory voters ;
So? Who cares about poor people dying?
anyone remember when barely any food banks existed in the UK at all? because we had a functioning welfare system? in the times before the Tories?
it’s incredible to watch the clear decline of our country, in so many different areas, and experience the overwhelming apathy of most of the public as each part of the decline is normalised.
or, for those 30% that actively vote for it, the mental gymnastics that they perform to avoid the difficult realisation that their political philosophy is wrong, has always been wrong, and is constantly proven to be wrong every day that goes by. but admitting being wrong is worse than destroying the country, I suppose?
it’s a shame that our 1% wealthiest don’t want to contribute to improving our country for everyone, and instead only use their considerable influence to line their own pockets by undermining our public institutions, public spending and welfare system. but at least they act in their own, selfish, interests. but those that vote for them despite not being independently wealthy, and therefore actively harming their own interests (e.g. when they need to use the NHS and find that it’s at breaking point and can’t care for them adequately) and the interests of their children (education, housing, food and energy security) – that’s the case that saddens me most of all. well and truly hoodwinked
Demand is up and supply will be sorely hit once energy bills go up. Charitable donations will be cut from people’s outgoings and those who used to donate may need help themselves, except now they will have nowhere to turn to for help.
Soup kitchens are going to be the next big thing this winter. In the year 2022 in one of the wealthiest countries on earth.
We have food banks and warm banks. This feels very 1860s.
I make it a personal policy to drop a few items in each visit (I started doing it to stop me buying sweets at work as part of a New Years health kick resolution!) and I wish everyone would try and do the same. They really have nothing and are turning folk away. If you don’t like the big ones, speak to your local church, mosque or temple and they will have something local too.
I am seriously worried we will have people dying of hunger or freezing to death this year.
I worry about the food shortages this winter too, but the surge in demand for food banks could have been seen from a mile away yet still they do nothing to change it.
