I don’t blame him, I probably couldn’t push the button and be responsible for countless deaths even if we were just shooting back
>He was given the nickname “Trigger” because of his “reluctance to pull the trigger”, according to tribunal papers.
Lmao. Navy still up to standards I see.
Though in all seriousness, I imagine being the guy who has to “press the button” and unleash thermonuclear death on hundreds of thousands, if not millions of innocent citizens of another country carries a lot of stress.
And I thought I had a bad day at the office.
I’ll support the dude. Not a position anyone should be put in.
Good. We do not need people who are unwilling to do what is needed to be done.
The other people who are in this topic saying they could also not press the button, well yer not everyone can so we need to 100% make shore the people we give this exstreemley hard job to can for us.
We ought to take the men out of the loop.
Let Joshua handle it.
Im sorry but i have little sympathy here.
If this a vegan who sued a buther firm they worked for because part of the role they knew before signing up would conflict with their beliefs wed be laughing at them.
He knew thats the role of those subs. If he cant do it then he shouldnt of joined.
Hes still in the navy just at a desk now.
And yes i wouodnt oress that button either, but then im also not aoolying to join a trident sub…
Has he read the bible? God is apparently fine with wiping out entire cities, or indeed virtually all of the human race if the circumstances call for it.
Arguably it’s the very people who would not push the button under any circumstance who we need to be in charge of these incredibly deadly weapons of mass destruction as they are weapons that should never have been invented or used.
I’m going to sit here and wait for people to argue there was no other choice than to nuke Japan now.
Love this, would make a great comedy.
Our arm forces don’t want these woke soyboys.
Last i checked we don’t even have 100 warheads.
I’m also morally opposed to Nuclear weapons. Not because of any religion but I don’t think you can justify murdering thousands of civilians in any circumstances.
I thought you had to volunteer to be posted to submarines anyway, as they don’t want people on board who can’t cope with being in a sealed metal tube underwater for months at a time.
All of Britain’s submarines are nuclear powered, and about a third of them carry nuclear weapons.
It’s a bit more complicated because he was apparently told that he wouldn’t be allowed to serve on Trident submarines even if he wanted to, because he’s a dual national. So he must have volunteered for submarine duty thinking that he could only be assigned to a non-Trident boat. But then, lots of parts of the navy are involved in the nuclear deterrence mission even if they’re not directly preparing to launch the missiles- he was clearly comfortable being on a vessel escorting a Trident submarine out of harbour.
