Will these kill me

  1. These are blackberries, you might have seen them in the shop before. Just like raspberries, but black. Pick them, wash them and eat them. Nothing will happen to you.

Edit : just like raspberries in size, not taste, just to be clear.

  2. I’m forever eating them when I come across them out walking or whatever. Don’t pick the ones that you could piss on and you’re good to go

  3. Eat them when they’re slightly ripe, you can pick the firm black ones now.

First rinse in salted water, to draw out the white worms. Then store in fridge.

  4. You should be grand as long as you remove the branches, leaves and thorns.

Don’t eat after rain and never after Halloween, as the púca spits on them.

  5. I picked a load of them recently and was told to let them soak in a spoonful of Baking Soda and water .. it gets all the shit out of them.. made some Jam it was Grand !

  6. You night find a maggot inside but that’s about all. They’re full of protein anyway so you’re good.

  7. Pick as many as you can to fill a bucket, divide into bowls filled with a water and mildly-strong vinegar solution, leave to soak overnight – this will clear out any bugs. Wash the following day to eat with ice-cream or make jam

  8. I gather them with my kids. It’s a great way to connect them to nature. They make lovely jam. Will aim to make a few kilos worth. Just don’t pick them too low, or near a busy road. We were getting some today and a lady with a baby in a carrier asked me if they were safe. It was kinda funny, I was with two of my kids and my daughter had a full blackberry beard. I reassured her that I was not an irresponsible person and wouldn’t dream of allowing my kids do anything unsafe. A minute before she came along we were trying to push each other into a pile of deer shit.

  9. These make the most delectable preserve, Bramble Jelly.

Also lovely with apples in a pie.

Do it, do it, do it.
