Whatever happened to the overseas surgery fund or whatever it was.
I’ve vague memories that if you were waiting longer than x time for major surgery you used to get shipped off to the mainland to get it done in France or whatever
“The hospital said the cancellations are due to increased workload pressure on its services and staff.”
From first hand experience, while awful for patients and families, this shit is beyond infuriating for all the staff involved. It’s just the same constant problem.
The little girl mentioned in the article said “If I got the operation I could push my chair”.
That just breaks my heart. Imagine being 7, living in constant pain, not being able to walk, and dreaming about the day you could push your wheelchair.
There is something seriously broken with our country.
Ita a fucking disgrace that kids are left like this.
My experience of the hospital system has been great when it comes to my kids when they’ve needed it and I can’t understand how something as serious as this isn’t getting resourced properly.
I had scoliosis when I was younger and was operated on, was lucky I was nowhere near severe as many cases. A lot of the time scoliosis can just come with a lot of other health problems, but lately it’s just the same shit all the time.
Someone will be on Joe Duffy talking about it and there’ll be a huge push, it’ll get brought up in the Dail by someone looking for brownie points and pretty quickly the lists and back to what they were growing and growing.
This wouldn’t necessarily be to do with the staff shortage that’s obviously an issue which needs to be dealt with but I’m talking in general over the last 10/15 years.
Very sad watching that little girl on the news last night, I hope they get things improved for these kids quickly.
All FFG assets should to be sold to contribute towards paying for that new hospital. Maybe privateer Mary Harney could be ground into a power to be sold as a aphrodisiac in China.
