ScottishPower admits we’re struggling with energy bills, then adds a fee

  1. Aka “we know some of you are thinking of withholding payment. So because of that if you do we will charge you another £5.”

  2. The energy companies are worried about people struggling financially. Not because they care about those people, but because then they might not get paid.
    It’s just free PR if they can dress it as caring.

  3. I got two consecutive texts from Scottish Gas last week;

    – ‘We know it’s a difficult time and people are struggling, reach out to us if you need help or advice’

    – ‘We see you haven’t paid your most recent bill. Please do so by Sept 2nd or we will add a £13 admin charge’

  4. Ahh… the good old “Bringing our company policy into line with the market standard of thieving every last penny we can from desperate people” defence.

  5. I especially liked them trying to give me some form of comfort by informing me not to worry after the price increase because they will be locked in price until January in the recent email about Octobers increase.

    Fucking tone deaf assholes.

  6. I wish there was a law against late fees. “Oh, you’re struggling to pay; here’s another £15 you owe us then.”

    It’s basically a punishment for being poor. Fuck the companies that do late fees.

  7. Scottish Power are the worst energy company. British Gas gets a lot of flack, rightly imho but Scottish Power’s customer service is appalling.

  8. Can confirm these rats charged me £10 for a missed payment even though 25 days prior id paid my previous bill. Their answer was they generate when the smart meter tells them too which seems to be around the 25 days mark not even a month them extra 3 days every months leading me to pay 13 times a year, absolute jokers
