Who else reckons Tesco is forcing us into clubcards so they can essentially gather free information on consumer trends?

  6. Why don’t you get a club card and stop complaining. If you shop in tesco and don’t have a cluecard you are an idiot. It’s to reward loyal customers.

  8. Yeah, that’s literally always been the purpose of a club card. Same with all the supermarkets. You could argue you’re being compensated with discounts and vouchers codes etc.

  9. I think they’re doing it to compensate for their lack of products on offer. You think you’re saving money with a clubcard but the product would have been available at that price anyway a year or two ago for everyone and not just clubcard holders.

  12. If it bothers you can’t you just use someone else’s. At the checkout ask someone to scan their card. You get the points, they get the free vouchers and it fucks with Tesco’s algorithm. Win on all counts

  15. What’s wrong with them gathering that info anyway, you agree to it when you sign up and if I’m getting paid for it indirectly by using a clubcard then happy days. Some serious savings on it to be fair.

  17. How much did you want that duvet? I mean like I’ve seen it in tesco plenty on items I can just avoid buying or buy the same product from another brand.

    Nobody is forcing anyone. If your a bargain hunter looking to avoid being tracked get 3 cards and add false information to all them. The data will be useless to tesco

    Or you know…. shop elsewhere

  25. They could not be giving you more of a choice. Pay the higher price if you don’t want to give them your info, or get it for a lower price if you are happy to give them your info. Literally no forcing going on. If you don’t want a club card then pay the higher price or shop elsewhere. No forcing.

  28. If you have an iPhone or Android mobile, use Facebook and Google, etc., I believe most companies already have all of your data.

  36. Yeah looks like it alright. I’d imagine their doing a drive to get as many ppl as possible over some amount of time and then the big deals will start to taper off.

  40. They aren’t forcing you. Don’t want a club card? Then don’t have one. It’s that simple.

    It’s not even a requirement to shop there. Loyalty cards are there as an insensitive to encourage consumers to continue to shop there. On one end you get discounts and money off your shopping, they get your business. It’s a fair deal. Arguably however they could give clubcard holders more back, but that’s a different conversation

    But yes they do gather information on consumer trends, that’s basically how all marketing works. It’s not the big conspiracy you think it is.

    This is the type of crap you’d expect people to loan about on the Joe Duffy show.

  42. No issue with data gathering, have super valu card. I shop in all the different supermarkets depending on handiness etc.

    Stating the obvious here but in Super valu and Dunnes, the price is the price for everyone and your rewards come after you buy with money off vouchers and coupons etc. Tesco have literally changed their pricing to a two tier system to basically blackmail you to get a club card. I’ve no issues with getting a club card but I won’t be blackmailed into it. Not going to make a huge difference to them but as many people here suggest, I won’t be shopping there again.

  44. Tescos just a shitty company. A couple years ago my family member broke his back at their shop while working. Tesco didnt give a shit. He was out of work a while but didnt pay him, but the second they could get him back they did. Not a single appology despite their store not being to standards for work safety. Years later their trying to force their older staff out so they dont have to pay them. And said family member is now to ill to work because of his fucking job being filled with pricks that overworked him. They like to use people up and spit them out and quite frankly I hope they get what they deserve. The clubcard isnt what you should be angry over. They’ve done much worse.
