is it me or are the shelves in the supermarket getting more and more empty?

  1. What exactly are you looking at in the supermarket, OP? We have grain shortages globally, shortage of mustard, shortage of corn, etc.

There is so much shit in the supermarkets that knowing what kind of products those shelves should have contained is necessary to understand if there is actually a serious problem.

  2. There are no Danone products in Delhaize stores because of a price negotiation. I can’t read the tags, but is that what we’re looking at here?

  3. I had the same feeling while doing my grocery shopping today. And it were all kinds of products, going from yoghurt to prepacked vegetables. But I have to add it, there were a bunch of employees really busy with stocking everything back up, so it might have just been the specific hour I went.

  4. about time people here started realizing how much for granted they’ve been taking this EXTREME LUXURY (ie. the well-stuffed supermarket)

  5. Hmmm yes but as others have stated this is more likely them renegotiating prices with suppliers rather than supply issues. HOWEVER that doesn’t mean that this won’t be prolonged. We have to remember that Suppliers and producers have energy costs too and obviously they want to charge those to the supermarkets (their costumers).. So this might be for a while and yes it might get quite a bit more extensive than just whatever products were here.

  6. Since there is Yakult in the picture I guess you are looking at the yoghurt shelf in a Delhaize.
All Danone products are no longer offered due to price negotiation issues. (Danone wants to raise them, Delhaize doesn’t agree). This raise is related to the current economic situation, but it isn’t that uncommon. Happens more often then you would think. 7. Not where I live tbh. I’m somewhat surprised, was expecting more shortages. Instead, we just got elevated prices.

  8. carrefour (my work) has huge logistical problems in their main depot because the other main depot is closing.

Shelves here are empty or nwhere near as filled as they should be for weeks sometimes.

that and because of said logistics problems the deliveries are absolutely shit as well

  9. The only two shelves I find constantly empty at the Colruyt are:

    – Minced chicken

    – Regular size hamburger breads

These two and only these two have been empty for me in the last 3 months.

  10. I’ve been trying to buy house brand dark chocolate mignonettes for three months and they are all out in every Carrefour, Delhaize, AH or Colruyt I’ve checked.

  11. I’ve noticed this as well, but couldn’t say which supermarket or which products. Just a general feeling that there are more empty shelves than a few years ago.

  12. price wars, know a guy who works in food industry prices go up, brand would like more money, stores don’t wonna pay for it to make people pay more. but yeah danone got hit the most with their pricing going way up.

  13. As some one who works for a supermarket chain, we are selling way more than expected, are short-staffed(store and transport personnel) and got supply issues from manufactures.

  14. Supermarkets don’t want to pay the amount their suppliers ask for their products because they fear a loss of customers if they have to raise prices.
Colruyt has this issue every year with multiple suppliers, but now because of the rampant inflation every major supermarket faces these problems.
