Europe is “well prepared” — thanks to storage capacity and energy conservation measures — if Russia decided to stop all gas deliveries, a top EU leader said Saturday amid an intensifying energy battle between Russia and the West over the war in Ukraine.
“We are well prepared to resist Russia’s extreme use of the gas weapon,” EU Economy Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni told reporters on the sidelines of an economic forum in Italy. “We are not afraid of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s decisions, we are asking the Russians to respect contracts, but if they don’t, we are ready to react.”
My wallet is not ready.
The question is if the citizens will be able to pay for it.

It’s true that Europeans are facing painful gas prices. But still Europe will enter the heating season with full gas stores and plenty of non-Russian suppliers. We can make it through the winter without Russian gas. A year ago no one thought that was possible.
My bills are 100% up from August 2021, the difference is shocking. Now I’m lucky to be able to manage but the thing is not everyone can.
My grandmother lives alone and her bills are going up as well but she is on a fixed pension, without a single doubt,without the help from our extended family she won’t be able to survive on her own this winter – and the bills will probably increase even more!
