Legal action launched against Tories over leadership battle

  1. Does anyone have the full text?

Anyway, the Prime Minister is not and never has been chosen by the electorate. The decision as to who gets to be Prime Minister is, constitutionally, entirely within the purview of the Monarch.

The Monarch invites a Member of Parliament to serve as Prime Minister based upon the expectation that they can form a government which can command the confidence of the Commons. That would ordinarily be the leader of the party with the largest number of seats in the Commons.

There might be issues with the Conservative party’s process for choosing the leader of the party that could be actionable but I can’t see how even those would have any bearing on the Monarch’s right to choose the Prime Minister…

  2. What a bunch of idiots…the magazine that is.

This is how new Party leaders have are normally chosen chosen. You want to have a say, then join the Party.

  3. So if it’s that easy to become a Tory member, is there anything stopping Sunak getting several tens of thousands of accounts made up to swing the vote over to him? He’s got the money.
