Brexit: Tenterden brewery says new export rules have hit sales

  1. I never understood how signing trade deals to bring down barriers with countries on the other side of the world was a Brexit benefit, yet tearing up a trade deal and putting up barriers with the biggest market we have right on our doorstep isn’t a bad thing.

Getting better trade deals = good

Getting a worse trade deal = good

  2. Well, duh.

Your biggest consumer market was right next door plus the lack of any barrier – imaginary or otherwise – meant having a consistent and constant flow of goods in both directions with no added inflated costs on top of the hundreds of trade deals they’ve negotiated also meant having a (trade-wise) reach far beyond just Europe.

I suspect with the incoming 20%+ inflation and shotgun policy making that became the norm after Brexit (because, you know, bureaucracy is bad apparently) will only make this worse and not just for smaller businesses but some of the big hitters as well eventually.

TL;DR the UK didn’t learn from history and it’s going to be the late 1960s – 1970s all over again
