  1. I’d trust them to make a good comedy programme by themselves yeah – don’t know why it has to be a Father Ted remake..if it’s not broke don’t fix it

  2. Firstly no. They’re good, but not on that level. Couple of minute long sketches aren’t comparable to a 25-30 min story led episode.

Secondly and more importantly, why remake it ? It’s pretty much perfect as it is. Why would you want to redo something instead of trying to do something original ?

I do think they are funny and deserve their own show, but it should be a sketch show, maybe something could grow from it into a longer format. But leave Ted in peace.

  3. IIRC, they did a Fr Ted play when they were in DramSoc in UCD… if I can remember, Arms was Ted and Hogg was Dougal (can’t remember if Foil was part of the cast).

To be fair to them, it went down very well in UCD at the time, we are talking around ’08, grapevine rumor was it had the approval of Linehan himself, and it also went to Ted Fest.

As good and well recieved it was back then, I am of the opinion of letting sleeping dogs lie, Ted had its reign, and will always be in our hearts. As for a full remake?? Nah, not for me… These bais, united in their love of Ted, made a great tribute to a well loved show, and left it at that, probibley rightly so…

  4. We’ve got some absolutely class young Irish comedy talent at the moment, these guys, Sean Burke, Shane Byrne, etc, and I truly hope some of em can go on to make the next Father Ted, in terms of a unique new comedy series that _rivals_ how good Father Ted is, rather than remakes it.

  5. Let them make their own sketch show without being shackled to something on the level of an actual religion here. Thats a career killer.

  6. A remake would be blasphemy, but a sequel would be fine. I know Ardal O’Hanlon is still acting, since he was in the Derry Girls. He could continue as Dougal and they could be new young priests. Ireland has changed so much since Father Ted was on air, so the concept could be interesting. Nobody is religious anymore and very few people actually join the priesthood, so there’s an entire different range of situations they could find themselves in compared to the original.

  7. I think father Ted is a product of its time. A new priest based show would have to focus on the church dying and poor attendance, African priests etc.

  8. I’m sure if you remade father Ted and hooked up a generator to Dermot Morgan’s grave to utilise the non-stop spinning the no doubt awful result would provoke, you could power the country indefinitely by the end of the pilot episode.

  9. Fr Ted was a product of its time as much as anything else, I think it would be weird to redo it now as things have moved on enough that it would mean the skits would need to be totally different. May as well drop the three priests and try and do Irish obervational humour

  10. FA&H are grand but I don’t think I’d trust anyone with a Father Ted remake. A follow-up in the same universe would be cool though. 3 new young priests fresh out of the seminary being guided by the cast of characters still around from the original series. I’d enjoy that.
