  1. > the review argued that the UK should deepen its trading relationship with Beijing while being wary of the risks to national security

“The UK should have be able to have its cake and eat it too”

  2. The tories are a bigger threat to the working class of this country than China will ever be.

Truss in her support package wants to give 10x extra support to the richest percentile compared with the poorest. With friends like these who needs enemies.

  3. No way this could possibly go wrong.

China has form for targetting critics where it hurts.

    > Trade tensions, already rocky after Australia banned Chinese telecommunication giant Huawei from its 5G wireless network in 2018, worsened after Canberra called for an international inquiry into the origins of coronavirus.

    > China responded by imposing tariffs on Australian wine and barley and limiting imports of Australian beef, coal and grapes, moves described by the United States as “economic coercion”.

  4. Ah yes, pointless posturing.

Do you know what would be good, if you felt that China was a threat?

Maybe it could be some sort Union of like-minded, pro-democracy nations. We could limit it to geographical locations nearby. Some sort of…

    Union of Europe or something.

  5. Have you noticed the Tories are slowly emulating Trump here, China, Anti Trans nonsense, talking about closing borders

  6. “We’ve spent decades making you afraid of Russia, Iraq, Iran and the EU so you wouldn’t notice how awful we are at running the country. You appear to be focussing on how incompetent we are again now so here’s a country we haven’t blamed for all our problems yet”

  7. I see she’s running it strictly by the tory playbook. Find an enemy for the plebs to hate on while the tories get on with embezzling tax payers money.

  8. No offence to Liz, but do we really want to piss off China when:

    1. We flipped the bird to the European Union and effectively isolated ourselves from our closest trading partners.

    2. Unlike Trump, Joe Biden isn’t keen at all on striking a trade deal with us, even though our Brexit strategy has been to invite foreign investors to fuck our economy.

    3. We cannot even lean on the Commonwealth for support because China has been pumping mad money into bringing sub-Saharan Africa on their side. And here’s the thing, African nations have gladly lapped up China’s foreign investment because we’ve spent the last few centuries effectively pillaging, destablising and impoverishing the continent.

    4. Some of the most popular video games (i.e. Genshin Impact) and apps (i.e. TikTok) have come out of China, and could be filled with backdoors or surveillance tools. China’s cyber-warfare capabilities are light-millennia ahead of ours, when our top powers are dumb enough to save all the NHS track & trace records on an Excel spreadsheet instead of a proper database.

    5. Much of our university income is from wealthy international students whose families have prospered from the Chinese economy specifically. Ending that relationship would kill universities that rely on foreign students, because many of them are from China.

Truss is going to destroy this country if she wins, I really do think so. How could any Tory member choose her over Sunak?

  9. I know your plates are empty, your freezing cold and on the verge of homelessness and debt. *lizz truss points behind you* “oh my god do you see that?”

  10. Focus on the threat of your own country. We have people starving, not being able to afford bills yet you try to change the subject lippy gloss Truss about China when we need to be rebuilding our country. Ridiculous

  11. The biggest threat from China is their property market imploding. Which a lot of European & American banks are exposed to.

  12. Liz Truss along with the current conservatives government should be seen as the United Kingdom’s biggest security threat and the lot of them jailed. For life.

  13. FFS can’t they just leave China out of it for a couple of years?

China invading Taiwan is a fantasy. It would take many months to prepare, everyone would see it coming. An amphibious assault on one of the most fortified places in the world. Supplying that assault while being bombarded by US navy/Air Force. No way the CCCP would risk almost certain failure for practically no gain.

Loss of a valuable cheese market.

Really not in the mood for a war with China the way things are at the moment.

  14. Then stop selling off our fucking infrastructure to them. According to The Times Chinese investors own around £135 billion in infrastructure, property and other investments.

  15. What the fuck is she playing at? She wants to build relationships with Beijing and will undoubtedly need French cooperation if they want to do anything about the illegal immigration problem. Then she goes and chats shit and expects results

For the record, I don’t disagree. China is a growing threat, whether directly or indirectly. But we’re in a shitshow of Brexit and now want to throw fists. Its not really the appropriate time

  16. How do British Chinese people feel about this kind of nonsense. Not because they have a sense of loyalty to China, but they will be the ones who will suffer the consequences of actions like this.
