I’m sorry but it’s my first time in Poland and I need help. Today a nice man in a Pierogi costume came to me and wanted to take a photo with me, but after taking the photo he started spitting at me and saying some Polish swear words. I think he wanted money.

  1. Just avoid any kind of people in costumes that want to take a photo with you, because they will certainly want the money 🙂 Especially when you met them on tourists streets.
Please also avoid strip clubs and in general places where promoters will invite you to enter. The safest option is to stick to the places where you can see a polish customers, and avoid places where you can see only foreigners.

  2. Take it as a lesson. I had the same experience in New York but my friend gave him one usd to make him go away. I learned from that experience that when these people in costume come to me, I should run away. I think we all will encounter this at least once as a tourist unfortunately…

  3. Ah, the typical “take pic with me bro but you have to pay” scam.

  4. Very strange. All my friends with pierogi costumes do this for free.

  5. I think it’s a generated picture, but if not, just avoid taking pictures with them. Just laugh about it, but don’t take pictures. It’s the same as in Italy, Spain, Germany and many other countries in the World. It’s an universal thing in Europe that they are not there because they like being all day dressed as big pieróg, but they want to gain some money

  6. It’s Pierogi-man, he’s one of our supervillains, like Joker in Gotham.

  7. The USA has Superman who rescues the world from evil. Poland has Pierogiman who spits on people.

  8. Was this before or after the scary-faced pierogi you were served? Was your daughter with you and did this also make her cry? Just wondering. 🙂

  9. Probably a tourist scam, just like the men “giving” your girlfriend flowers for being beautiful, and then demanding you pay for said flowers, and all the other inventive and annoying things.

  10. Magic Word is “spiardalay”, with this you will cast the spell, it will make any weirdo goes away… My child (and here comes witchy lough hihihihi)

  11. Hes one of these people who wear a costume sadly only for money . When you take a pic with him you “have to” give him money for effort or authors rights or sum . Its just a scam and not any tradition . U can see many of people like them on vacations .

  12. If you ever come to Rome don’t take pictures with the “gladiators” either.

  13. Was it a pierogi costume or pierogi hat and otherwise dressed as a curtain holding a curtain rod? In the first case, yes, he needed some money for booze in the second, it was a catholic bishop and you should not give them money. They need to get a job.

  14. This is the funniest post I’ve seen on Reddit. Laughing my head off at 3AM. Going to send it to everyone I know. Pierogi man is amazing.
