  1. I actually think duolingo is a waste of money. I found it useful with japanese up to the point that I learned learned characters. After that it was more useful to study and use forums.

  2. Need to consume media of all kinds and speak it from time to time. Duolingo is a phenomenal app but you need to back it up.

  3. Good luck with it.

I started it two weeks and struggling with it too. I studied Irish for three years at a secondary school in the North and I remember fuck all.

Does anyone recommend any more resources?

  4. Here are a few resources to help you on your journey

Abair.ie for help pronouncing words. Even provides different dialects.

Focloir.ie a good English to Irish dictionary

Teanglann.ie another dictionary that draws on multiple sources and sometimes also provides pronounciation

    Go néirí leat!

  5. Keep going, it’s a really fun course.

I have been using it learn Irish and while I think it’s a great resource, I do hate that is has limited teaching tools as compared to other languages and has been essentially abandoned for 3 years. The lack of speaking exercises is a real disappointment since I know French/Spanish have practice speech lessons.

I think I read somewhere that the Scottish government does support the group that actively maintains the Scottish gaelic duolingo lessons so it would be nice to see the Irish government maybe take control of gaeilge duolingo and continue to update it.

  6. Yo también lo usé para aprender español y irlandés y para mí, es una de las aplicaciones más útiles del mundo. ¡Buena suerte con el curso!

  7. I went to an Irish school for 8 years and forgot most of my Irish when I went into secondary so I’m doing the same and honestly I’m the same, duo is helpful because I started learning Spanish while having dyslexia so

  8. As someone who just finished it, good luck. It was fun, keep at it. There are loads of other resources out there in case you get bored with Duolingo. And check us out at r/gaeilge
