At this rate they could just all ring each other and decide to announce price hikes on the same day …so at least that way the misery is nicely bundled together and we can get over it quicker
The tactic seems to be that one company sticks their neck out to profiteer by whichever outrageous amount they think they’ll get away with, then everyone else rushes to follow suit.
Rinse and repeat every two months.
The Government really needs to get a grip on this or they’re going to be put out by Christmas.
Bord Gais’s profits rose 74% in the first half of this year. Its parent group’s profits rose 80% to €1,300,000,000.
It is profiteering from misery.
This will truely be our winter of discontent.
It’s basically British Gas, so whatever the Tories will let them get away with in the UK, they’ll try here too. We should respond by taxing the absolute shite out of them; at least keep the money in the country.
So basically they’re all going to have these kinds of increases.

Is there an equivalent of Comreg for electricity companies?

Whose turn is it tomorrow?
That’s me pushed into effective poverty. Thanks Putin.
Hypothetically if gas supplies are returned to normal will we ever see these prices reduced?? That’s what irks me the most.
there will be no small businesses left at this rate!
Cool!
.
The Nissan leaf you were boasting about is getting pretty expensive now isn’t it Amanda
(€43.80 + €48.25) x 12 x 1,900,000 (households in 2020) = €2,098,740,000
Yes not all of those households are with Bord Gais, but all of these suppliers will follow suit with similar increases.
Does anybody know if solid fuel prices are expected to increase too?
I’ve a wood burning fireplace, and considering stockpiling firewood if prices are going to go up.
Question I just signed up to bord gais for electricity for 12 months. So do they not have to honour the rate in my contract? Otherwise what’s the point of a contract?
As bad an all as it will be this winter (bearing in mind Europe’s reserves are about 80% full), it’s next winter that will be the nail in the coffin for many.
average energy bill now 4000 euro a year, they think it will be 6000 by January. The price of every item will now also go up so businesses can cover their bills. How do they expect people to live.
So what do you think, will the prices come back down next year if and when the gas issue is resolved?
Is this for profit? Like are these energy companies making profits this year? This is scandalous if it is
Heads are going to roll at some stage, and I mean that literally. People are being squeezed badly now and some of its purely for shareholders. It can’t continue, these private companies will create a massive mutiny somewhere in the world if this shit continues
At a certain point, someone’s just going to have to drag an energy exec out into the street and murder them in the street
Haha great timing, I just switched to them yesterday. Thank fuck for the cooling off period, I’m bailing.
Can someone please eli5 what’s going on.
For electricity, most of our supply is produced domestically?
For gas, we get enough from reasonably local sources and are not competing with other European countries?
Has it gotten more expensive to produce electricity?
We could barely afford it as it was is anyone else genuinely scared for winter? We’re gonna just not put the heating on we think but our single pain windows let in so much cold😭
