A Red Arrows air show above thousands of people was dramatically halted when the cockpit of a £5m jet was smashed in a bird strike.
One of the jets called Red 6 was forced to break-off from the rest of the team as its glass cockpit was shattered.
Eyewitnesses heard a “loud pop” before Red 6 broke-off from the rest off the formation – as thousands watching the drama from the ground.
Pilot Gregor Ogston gave an “emergency 7700 squawk transponder code” to signal an emergency as the jets gave their display.
The famous air display team were the star attraction of Rhyl Air Show 2022 in North Wales.

With things like this and the way they’re haemorrhaging pilots, we’ll soon be seeing displays advertised as “The Red Arrow”.
Goooooooossseeee!
Even the birds are on strike now
Is that a piece of bird on top of the pilots helmet or some equipment?
Really surprised the cockpits aren’t built to withstand a bird strike
Bugs on the windscreen? Poor bird.
The Red Arrows are looking really tired now much like the UK as a whole.
