  1. Cold chicken nuggets and McDo? Isn’t this neglect in stead of poverty?

    If apparently there is money togo to McDo, you can buy a full week of bread and veggies with this?

  3. Ik stel me serieus de vraag hoeveel succesverhalen het CLB hierover kan bovenhalen met betrekking tot ‘praten met de ouders’. Of het nu gaat om armoede, verwaarlozing of wat dan ook, in welk opzicht zou een gesprek met de ouders leiden tot geen beschimmeld brood meer mee te geven?

    Idealiter verandert hun thuissituatie idd, maar ik zie niet in hoe het plots kan omslaan. Dan lijkt het me nuttiger om elke school een klein budget te geven voor gratis lunch voor deze kinderen.

  4. Ik zou met véél plezier een bedrag aan de school van mijn kinderen storten als ze daarmee in staat zijn om dit soort toestanden te voorkomen. Ik moet zelfs niet weten voor welke kinderen dit gaat.

  5. Je kan je de vraag stellen of dit effectief armoede is gewoon verwaarlozing.
    Een brood kost 2 keer niets in vergelijking met andere crap die ze dan wel eten. Maar ja je moet het wel willen doen he. Vaak is het dat en niet van “kunnen doen”

  7. Wat is er mis met een koude hamburger? BEdoelen ze dat die afgekoeld is als je die al eens gebaken hebt?

    Stukskes hamburger op brood lijken me best wel lekker.

  9. I hate this. The stories about kids having a lidl brand snickers for lunch or their box filled with potato chips is an unfortunate reality.

    The families who sacrifice everything for their kids to at least give them something should be helped, through the school. Some slices of bread, a potteke of strawberry jelly. Maybe with a deal through voedselbanken or stores that donate foodstuffs.

    There there are the families that neglect their kids, money for sigaretes, a dog or dogs, a 24 pack of cara pils, but nothing for the kids… fuck those kind of parents, they need to be re-educated in what it means to be a good parent.

  10. Zelf in mijn jeugd vaak beschimmeld brood gegeten of met een lege brooddoos. Als er genoeg soep was, mocht ik een kommetje nemen.

  12. I opened the comment section to see the debate on poverty vs neglect and how you can also buy cheap vegetables if you look for them and so forth.

    In the end the reality is that some children go to school without proper food and that is sad. Their parents may not be able to afford fresh bread every day and some probably make poor choices with regards to nutrition. Maybe they have never learned how to do so. It is not just about not being able to afford food but also about not having the right information or being able to prioritize healthy food over other things. It’s always easy to blame someone’s poverty on their own choices and abilities when you’re in a comfortable position yourself so don’t be too quick to judge.

  13. Challenge me on this idea I just had:

    Suppose meals at school cost 3 euro a day and there are 20 school days in a month. That would be 60 euro.

    What if we lower child support by 60 euro a month, and make all warm meals in school free?

    Essentially socialising lunch.

  14. Unfortunately we will see this much more in the future. Poverty is coming as we don’t create any environment that is attractive for new investments. We are a country from the past with loads of ever increasing government debt.

  16. Gotverdomme zeg, de comments hier zijn echt wel schokerend. Wat een slechte mentaliteit naar mensen in extreme armoede toe. Gaan we als samenleving echt ook die “het is jouw schuld als je arm bent” kant op?

  17. If this is what they get given for lunch, imagine how their breakfast and suppor must look like. I doubt these kids get a lot of fruit & vegetables. 🙁

  20. Een vriend is leraar en in zijn klas had een kind een complete vis bij met hoofd en al… Meester hoe moet ik dit opeten? Ook koude frietten kom geregeld voor.

  22. I feel like I read this article every couple months. Nothing changes. I don’t care if the parents are too poor, too stupid, too lazy, too neglectful, too evil or just plain don’t give a fuck. Fuck the parents, this is not about them. Free school lunch for *all* kids. You can’t force kids to go somewhere and then not feed them.

    Look at how Sweden does it.
