Good. Debates are useless. Studies show that compromising in a debate is perceived by the public as a weakness and “losing” the debate.
The best thing one can do in a debate is stand firm on your position and try to dunk on your opponent as much as possible, preferably with some gotcha moments.
None of those things is what leads to sensible policy. So fuck debates.
Debate what exactly? How the world is going to shit? In the end it is nothing more than repeating the pointers which their respective parties have given them on the topic. Does debating about issues amidst crises really help anything along? Does it change policies for the better, when a politician from the opposition makes a decent point? It won’t change a lick to current government policies.
Fair dinkum if you wanna hold them in the run up to elections on important topics, but right now though?

I’d rather have a nice list where I can look up a topic and then for each party if they are for or against and then a short text explaining why.
And then to make it extra fun, get that list back at the end of their 4 years and show which parties betrayed their initial standpoints.
Well yeah, most parties in Belgium just say the same thing. There’s hardly a debate when everyone’s opinion is “more for the government, less for the people”
