‘Greedy’ Liz Truss has claimed nearly £5k in expenses for energy in last 5 years

  1. What do you expect from the self described ‘continuity’ candidate?

I didn’t believe it possible to have a continuity candidate when the predecessor had to resign in disgrace.

  2. The point everyone’s missing is that all this talk of her having no plan for the energy crisis is bollocks. All we have to do is claim our energy bills on expenses…simples.

  3. Morale Hazard – exposing people to something they themselves are not exposed to. It happens on healthcare, education and household costs including energy. That morale hazard where they aren’t impacted by their decisions means they choose things that further separate their world from ours.

  4. I mean compared to other MPs who claimed 5k in a year alone on energy

Not condoning it but there’s worse but that’s still shit

  5. That actually sounds pretty reasonable.

Especially when compared to all sorts of different crazy and ridiculous expenses most MPs usually claim for, without any sort of real justification for it beyond just wanting to take taxpayers for mugs.

  6. Doesn’t believe in handouts, claims her energy as expenses. Cos that’s not hypocrisy at all right.. /s

Wonder what her total expenses claim was in the last 5 years? Probably a shitload more than 5k.

The point is, that her mp salary is fairly large, the HoC bars and restaurants are subsidised, and she can claim expenses, yet she consistently voted to cut welfare.

Parliament is the real easy street….bastards all of them.

  7. And Starmer claimed even more……in fact every MP claimed the maximum allowances and expenses that they were allowed ………so what’s your point ?

  8. We’d all claim our energy costs on expenses if we could, but this just goes to show that the ones we depend on to sort out our current energy crisis are among the few who actually have no skin in this game.

But surely Tory leadership is beginning to realise how utterly catastrophic it will be for them politically if they continue to downplay the magnitude of the issues. On the current trajectory, even average wage earners may have to choose between food and heating in the coming months. Many of our most vulnerable will be completely screwed.

My concern with Truss if she gets into office is that she’ll lean into her Thatcher cosplay thing, not really knowing that such policies will be likely utterly disastrous in the current climate.

  9. I completely understand why MPs should claim *some* expenses back to carry out their duties, as most of us do when we are working away from home. However, I think it’s a completely ridiculous system to allow them to claim for certain things they have up to now.

For example: Claiming for £20,000 for gardening fees, claiming for expensive house renovations, claiming £7000 for furniture, claiming for houses they then flip for a profit whilst not paying capital gains taxes on it. Paying tens of thousands of pounds from expenses for family members rent, I’ve even seen some claiming for toilet roll during the pandemic.

In no way in the world, should people earning salaries of over £81,000+ p/a and be claiming utilities, furniture, grocery items, house renovations etc whilst the numpties like all of us get shafted over and over again. Literally sat laughing in all of our faces and that will never change at this rate.
