To protect their shareholders’ dividends, not because they need to.
Three quarters of a *billion* euro in profits last year after all operating expenses, electricity purchases, staffing and infrastructure costs.
Profiteering should not be tolerated any further by the Government.
The amount of money the ESB Group and Electric Ireland spend on marketing alongside other energy companies is sickening.
Maybe if they scaled back on their marketing costs they wouldnt need to directly impact the consumer as much.
Think it’s time we all invest in solar. It would cut a fair chunk off everyone’s bill. They work fine in overcast weather, obviously better in clear skies.
EDF in france is 90% owned by the french state.
They capped increases at 4% for the whole year.
Irish state owns 95% of ESB group.
Whay are we not doing to same?

Why do we not have gas storage facilities like almost every other European county??

I think for all the money we’re giving them at this stage, we should all attend the EI Christmas party so we can pat everyone on the back for Christmas bonus they secured in these difficult times.
Surely we’ve enough paid to have our own reserved seating at this stage.

When this all blows over and the war ends we will not see the price we pay drop by much. once they know we will pay the higher price it’s not going to decrease
Literally signed up with them earlier in the week, 12 month contract with a 30% “new customer” discount. Cheers lads, that was generous of ye. Wiped out 2 days later.
