Energy bills forecast to reach £7,700 average from next year in latest expert price cap prediction

  1. lol there is no point in going to work for most people when the money they earn wont cover anything for most of the country.

  2. Won’t be long now, everything other than large companies will struggle or shut, unemployment skyrockets, crime rates go up, those in employment still struggling to cope…. Government “we understand the pain but it’s worth it”

  3. The annual income for those on Universal credit is £4018.92.

So once you’ve paid your energy bill that leaves you with minus £3681.08….

    That’s gonna work.

  4. These numbers feel meaningless to me now. They’re just so ridiculous, and increasing at such a fast rate, and there’s absolutely no chance I could afford it

  5. Untenable. They’ll cap it at the current rate, raise their hands and say “look how good we are!”, then we will be paying it off over the next 20 years through our taxes.

I know everyone here hates the Tories, but there’s no chance they’ll let it reach 7.7k per year. They’d be out of power for the next century.

  6. I’m on PIP and get a little over that in a year, how are people who get less than me going to survive? I’m already stocking up on winter supplies because I can’t afford heating this winter.

  7. No-one seems to be questioning who this “energy consultancy Auxilone” is. They keep coming out with bigger and bigger headline grabbing forecasts, but googling just now I couldn’t even find a website, let alone what their “expert” credentials are.

Cornwall Insight, who are actually a well established, respected voice in the industry, are [forecasting a £5.3k](https://www.cornwall-insight.com/cornwall-insight-release-final-predictions-for-octobers-price-cap/) [edit: £5.9k, see comment below] price cap for the same period as Auxilone are forecasting here.

I’m not saying that’s any better (it’s still catastrophically expensive) but the way the press are giving voice to these headline-grabbing chancers is just adding more confusion to the topic, which we really don’t need right now.

  8. The war in Ukraine has been going on for over 6 months now. Even if it ended tomorrow the Europe wouldn’t rush back to buying Russian gas, so what is everyone doing to replace it? I’ve not heard of wind farms & solar being ramped up in the UK.

  9. Avg salary post tax is about £27k. More than one third of your pay will go to energy. A typical single bedroom home in England costs £7.2k per year. So over half your pay is taken up by simply having a small roof over your head as well as keeping it warm and well lit.

  10. ‘An average household is considered to be one that uses 12,000 kWh of gas and 2,900 kWh of electricity in a year.’

HOLY SHIT THEY FINALLY FUCKING SAID IT.

Months and months and months of predictions and it was impossible to find out what the averages they were using were and then out of nowhere, finally there they are.

  11. At this point it’d literally be cheaper to apply for a visa, hire a moving company and get the fuck out of the country than to pay your energy bill.

  12. Where the fuck is the government! If this was France the country would be smashed to bits by now, they wouldn’t let the government bend them over and pillage them like the UK does!

  13. These “experts” seem to come out with a higher figure every week despite natural gas prices not increasing and oil futures being significantly down on the last couple of months. There is some depreciation of the £ Vs the $ but not enough to justify these figures.

It’s almost like there’s an agenda here.

  14. Christ, it’s not an expert prediction. It’s a prediction by Tony Jordan (a B2B energy broker who doesn’t know his arse from his elbow) and about 1 week of data.

Honestly, I work in the industry and the fact people are publishing this is just irresponsible. Nobody knows where prices are going in the next cap yet. It’ll be about a month or so before we have a decent forecast. I’m tempted to knock one up just to stop this being shared.

  15. We are at the point where it doesn’t matter what the predictions are anymore. The current Government is going to have to do something about it, because the consequences for them as a political force if they don’t would be absolutely disastrous. Like, no more party at all disastrous.

Now what they do is still to be figured out, but the status quo just cannot apply and they know it.

  16. Tune in in three days when the latest prediction is £8k plus, next month let’s see if we can hit double figures ding ding ding
