When anger at war profiteering by energy companies brings down the first government (and its likely to be the English one which is brought down first) we’ll see chancelleries and treasuries across Europe suddenly decide that there *is* something they can do after all.
Lets look at it this way, they can only make those profits if people can pay…
Needs more context to be fair. OK they are making 170 billion in the next two years which is insane, but how much do they normally make a year before the current crisis?
Sir, this is Ireland.
Yeah I honestly don’t see this happening, there’ll be windfall taxes, heavier regulation and EU level clampdowns on this sort of shenanigans. Nuclear option is that the energy producers are temporarily nationalised as a last resort until things calm down. It’s not just the ordinary joe getting screwed here this fucks up businesses across the board too.
In the longer term there needs to be a serious look at the entire European Energy sector to see what can be done to improve things, should be grants so people should be able to retrofit their homes with solar panels for example and an energy storage unit so houses dont have to be reliant on the energy grid constantly. Means they can use that storage unit to power the home at peak times and charge at night when energy rates are cheaper or from solar power during the day.

Is that UK or Ireland?
