A lot of people here fooling around with Greek inside jokes. Ignore them.
Here’s the thing: Chalkidiki has experienced major thunderstorms and rains the past weeks and it’s probably going to happen again, which is why you got this message. It means that you have to prepare yourself for a potential severe storm in your area in the next 24 hours. Many parts of Chalkidiki had blackouts and floods due to the rain past week, and it’s probably going to happen again.
Do not go outside, close all windows tight. If you’re in a hotel ask staff for what to do, they’re probably locals and know better. If you live alone secure all openings and make sure you have a vehicle nearby in case things get ugly. Have a battery operated flashlight ready and make sure to prepare yourself for the worst even if it doesn’t happen.
That said, it’s true that our government sometimes uses these messages as spam and just mass sends them to everyone inside a region which might be affected by the weather phenomena or not. But better safe than sorry.
Hi, the warning is to discourage people of doing activities like hiking, swimming, surfing, or even camp on dried streams and get caught from the heavy rain. Flooding is also dangerous for people sleeping in basements. In the hotel you’ll be perfectly fine, dont worry!
Read the bottom half of the message it’s in English
If you stay indoors, you’re safe. I can hardly remember any news stories about people drowning indoors. Most buildings in Greece have concrete columns and beams, so they are not swept away by floods. The message says to avoid unnecessary travel because in many areas, especially densely populated ones, there are old stream beds that have been turned into roads. These are dry 99% of the time, but a sudden rainstorm can turn them into rivers. Cars and pedestrians have been swept away in some of these places. So stay indoors if the rain seems very intense and you will be fine. 🙂
stay inside or risk your life
First time ?
There’s a translation
Watch some Netflix and chill
It means that it’s time to order from efood
As there is an English translation and links to official government sites I believe it is self-explanatory.
There’s not much to think about. It’s a warning about severe weather and you should take it seriously.
Short translation.
As a government we dont want to be accused of not warning you. So we warn you about every minor “bad weather incident”
Besides… cause of the greek state collapse.
Even light rain can cause excessive uncontrolled destruction.
You have been warned.
You are alone.
should be self explanatory
You should really stay inside for the day. Last few years have been catastrophic in Chalkidiki with storms
the messages are kinda hyperbolic some times but its a good service overall. Thessaloniki got hit kinda bad last night i think the ring road was closed this morning i dont know about Halkidiki
It means that ,Mitsotakis,a legendary unlucky beast,is near you…
If you want to survive, you must hide!
Warning for whether conditions
what don’t you understand exactly?
It basicall says stay inside mf or you are getting wet
It’s gonna rain hard. Because the public infrastructure is fucked, there might be floods. Be aware of your natural environment. Eg. if you are staying in a house on the slope of a hill, or it is build on an old dried river you might be in trouble. When it starts raining, have a look at what is happening around you. Are water streams being formed ? And this kind of things. Probably nothing will happen, but stay alert.
Halkidiki at the end of August have sometimes life threatening storms. A couple years ago we had casualties from the floods and falling trees from the wind. Take care.
Everyone talks shit about this . But I ve seen it save lives.
It should have been a thing years ago.
