Also note the amount of adverts on TV for private health now.
There is no such thing as private healthcare in the UK, what is actually happening is private firms are being handed pieces of the state-funded provision.
If you ‘go private’ you are simply pushing in, paying for the privilege of course, and making several people quite rich.
Had my GP genuinely suggest I go private because some waiting lists are so long due to budget and staffing cuts 😔
Remember: It’s all part of the plan.
Just wait and watch, one day sooner than you think, boom, health insurance and a predatory americanised system which would gladly watch you suffer and die if they can’t profit from you.
The NHS will always be here, it will just become a shadow of what it once was as the Tories starve it, private companies pick up services under government contracts and existing NHS staff move to private companies for better pay and conditions. The Tories would never get away with getting rid of the NHS altogether, so they are doing the next best thing and remoulding it into something unrecognisable.
We spent £277 billion on the NHS in 2021 so it’s a bit of a stretch to say we have been took back to the 1900’s.
Maybe the population should take some responsibility for their own health and the NHS management could stop wasting billions then we would have a world class system, rather than the sacred cow we have now.
Doctor in Wales here. Waiting lists are even worse than England. We legally don’t have to meet targets except for cancers. In England the trusts actually get fined and lose funding if they don’t meet targets.
Essentially, they don’t ask us to do extra evening or weekend clinics (for overtime rates) like they do in England to cut down the waiting lists.
Most of us would snap up those extra lists if the health boards offered them…but because it doesn’t affect funding they couldn’t be arsed letting people wait 2 years for an appointment.
