Don’t worry the Tories have made pledges and targets. Despire it being the water companies fault alongide the Tories reducing those burdensome regulations it will cost you even more on your water bill once its been filtered through profits and bonuses.
Good job the tories all voted to allow the water companies to go this. I wonder how much they were ‘donated’ to vote that way…
Back in the 90s I was swimming in the sea in Newquay and got some fucking horrible taste in my mouth with the sea water. Spat it out and got out the sea. Next day my whole mouth was full of ulcers.
These water companies are getting away with actually poisoning people.
This is bloody sad. Used to swim down there all the time. Cooden Beach was a nice quiet spot and the beach had good ratings.
On the flip side, I think Bexhill must have the greatest collection of original shop frontages of any small town in Sussex.
I recall Gove saying freedom from EU regulation was also the freedom to do things better, so the question is, better for whom?

I used to love walking my dog on the beach and let her plod in the sea. Not anymore. The levels of toxins at my local beaches have literally killed a number of dogs over the summer and made several seriously ill.
This is a direct result of the deregulation the tories brought in regarding industry being able to dump their waste directly into water courses.

As bad as sewage is some people amaze me. The water looked like poo, it smelt like poo, and the dogs were clever enough to stay out. She still went swimming in it. Wears PPE at work but is okay swimming in poo and pee in her own time apparently.

So they can literally have no regulations. On waste, food safety,. Water, etc etc.
Somewhere in the narrative people have been convinced that basic health and safety is the first step on the road to socialism.
Our beaches have been filled with litter and a dump for sewage for years, as anyone who lives on the coast can testify. It has only become more noticeable as companies have been discharging more and more sewage, to the point that there is practically no clean lake or river anywhere in the UK. People need to vote the Tories out for good if they want this to change. It needs a long-term solution and the Tories would reverse any progress as soon as it would be convenient.
The volume of toxic waste that these water companies dump into our waters on purpose because they haven’t invested back into the business and have been trousering obscene profits is criminal and until we start treating them as such it will continue.
i’m sure it’s always been this way to some extent – as a kid i got a mouthful of seawater and then had to spend the rest of the day resting because of an awful migraine

They’ve been dumping sewage into the beck near me for years and you can’t go near it on walks because my dog’s favourite hobby is to launch himself into it and get absolutely raging diarrhoea
Is it the same as the rivers where all beaches are polluted now? Which would mean no blue flag beaches anymore?

Swimming in Byron Bay, Australia after a storm I once saw a sizeable turd float by.
Not that I want to victim-blame, but don’t they follow the news? I’m puzzled that anyone would hp in the UK sea right now unless they know the water is tested and clean.
