Drivers will be ‘stunned’ by rise in drop-off fees at UK airports, says RAC

  1. It’s insane how cheap flights are (or can be) e.g. £40 return to European countries and then the airports fuck you like this.

I hate the added extra culture that has developed everywhere. I’d even rather pay more in total e.g. £60 return and have free drop off

  2. There are trains to most airports, even the remote ones Ryanair favour. At least some of the day and even sometimes at weekends.

  3. It’s bad enough inside, having to navigate all the glaring brighly lit shops. They should be paying us.

I was at an airport once and the boards for the gates had an advert every 15 seconds. You hardly had time to pick out your flight before an advert flashed up

  4. Bristol was £1 pre pandemic, £3 during and briefly after, now £5 … ( that’s for 0-10 mins). Pretty pisstaky as there are no options unless you stop at least 10 minutes walk away

  5. About 5 years ago I accidentally drove into the valet parking pickup at Birmingham, drove straight out but cost me £20.

  6. At Heathrow you can drop off for free in the long stay car parks you get 2 hours. There are free buses to all terminals.

  7. Manchester and Leeds both have free drop off areas. The one at Manchester is in Jetpark 1 and there’s a free shuttle bus to the terminals. Leeds is similar, but you just walk 3 minutes.

If you want dropping off right at the terminal door, you have to pay. But at both airports there’s free drop off.

  8. I mean seriously wtf is up with this country! £7 to drop someone off at the airport? How about building a bit of extra pavement rather than treating people like freaking cash pinatas they can beat at every step of their daily lives.

What’s next? Supermarkets charging to use the checkout? Parks charging entry for the swings? Pubs charging a rental fee for the drink glasses? Perhaps they could start charging for using bus stops so poor people shiver in the cold?

  9. Don’t worry, the shuttle bus at Stansted is perfectly reliable. Assuming you’re at the stop three hours before your flight, at least one should eventually turn up on time to get you on board a somewhat delayed flight.

  10. “We are introducing the fees to push travellers to use the public transportation thus reducing the carbon footprint at Heathrow”.

“Cool, I have an electric car so I’m OK right?”

    Heathrow: “Lol no.”

  11. It’s the same every time, people on here were all saying “it’s only a quid stop being so tight”, yeah it’s only a quid now, once it’s standard to be charging for it, up up up, the price will go. Exactly the same thing happened with tuition fees.

  12. Is UK rebasing its entire economy to different levels becoming a high income country? It seems like everything is planned for higher prices.

  13. Indeed, fuck Stansted airport. I remember when dropoff used to be FREE, then it was closed for a good while because of “threat of terrorism”, then when it came back I think it was £2 for 15 mins? (Correct me if I’m wrong) And has slowly gone up 50p or thereabouts until I had to go the first time in about 3 years and it was £7… The whole thing leaves a really bad taste in your mouth.

    Money grabbing w⚓s

  14. >A Stansted spokesperson said the charge “makes an important contribution to encouraging alternative, more sustainable transport options and reducing congestion on the airport and surrounding roads”.

    In other words; a racket.

  15. At Stanstead drive to the exit end of the pickup area and just drop off in the hotel car park there or the entrance to the short stay car park if the hotel isn’t accessible anymore. 3 mins extra walk and you don’t have to pay the £8 for a 20 second drop off. The walk is sheltered too.

    Everyone should be doing this.

  16. Whilst I can appreciate that they want drop off times to be limited it is absolutely disgusting to charge people for the privilege of actually dropping off a passenger. They should have 5 minutes or 10 minutes free then charge anyone who hangs around over that time to stop people taking the piss. They will be charging us to stand in line at security and check-in next.

  17. I’ve flown out of the greater NYC area my whole life and I’ve NEVER heard of this kind of fee. Someone actually beat us at grifting travelers
