Can’t see the whole thing as it’s behind a paywall, but, was this grant funded or actually from the Authority’s budget?
Because if it was grant-funded then you can argue it could have perhaps been spent better, but ultimately it didn’t come out of the Authority’s own budget anyway.
Edit: Managed to see the rest of the article. Sounds like it’s grant-funded, so while they might be a cash-strapped Council, this didn’t come out of their budget.
Still not necessarily the best way to have spent the money, for all the reasons highlighted by the residents though.
So we can sit outside in the cold when our heating bills are too much to bear.
We really are taken for a ride by councils
The amount of money they get from council tax rises, pcns, bus lanes etc is insane and they squander it all
60 grand for a few benches?
why bother when some activist group can do it for you for free.
How did **those** cost 60k?! Not only are they expensive, they’re a woefully inadequate use of space. You could have had 2-3 park benches in that same space to sit more people for 1/60 of the price!
Also, sun loungers? Who’s going to the middle of Louth to go sunbathing right next to a busy road?! Oh yes, those car fumes do wonders for my skin in this completely overcast day because we’re in Britain where it’s cloudy for 70% of the year.
They’re not going to be covered in bird shit, chewing gum, and graffiti at all, are they.
All 7 local MPs are Conservative. I’d bet my house that one of their wives/husbands own a wood carving business. £60k for two benches pmsl.
Just standard Tory corruption, move along plebs.
Roadmen probably appreciate them
My local council is about to spend over £20k on a gold chain for the deputy mayor.
good old corruption
Media doesn’t understand how council finances are implemented, more news at 10.
Benches would be so much better and probably cheaper. I can see where they were going but it this is just a terrible solution to providing more seating in the high street. People do not want to lounge in the high street, they want proper seats. Did they even consult locals before doing this?
